ये सारे हाट जमीनी रूप से बाजार प्रणाली और व्यापार का हिस्सा रहे हैं. नियमित हाट का इतिहास अत्यंत प्राचीन हैं, जहाँ किसान और स्थानीय लोग एकत्र होकर व्यापार करते हैं. हाट का प्रयोजन उस समय सिर्फ व्यापार ही नहीं, इसके साथ ही आपस में समाचारों का आदान प्रदान, सामाजिक सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक क्रियाओं को मंच प्रदान करना भी था. ये वह स्थल थे, जो त्योहारी एकता और सशक्तिकरण के प्रतीक होते थे.
आज भी भारत में ग्रामीण परिवेश की सबसे जमीनी व्यापारिक प्रणाली का हिस्सा ये हाट हैं.ये हाट अपने आप में इतना पर्याप्त होता है कि गाँव के लोगों की सभी जरुरतों को पूरा कर सके. लेकिन आज नई प्रौद्योगिकी के अतिक्रमण से मनोरंजन के विविध साधनों नें ग्रामीण जनता के जीवन में प्रवेश किया, जिस कारण हाट समआर्थिक समूह का सार खोता जा रहा है. अपनी जटिलताओं और प्रतिस्पर्धा के कारण इन हाटों की मौत हो रही हैं.
यही कारण है कि हाट की विलुप्ति आरंभ हो गई है. यह देखा गया है की एक हाट अपनी प्रसिद्धी और आकर्षण तब खो देता है, जब इसके ग्राहक और विक्रेता घटने लगते हैं. आज भारत के हाट कुछ स्थानों तक ही सिमित हो गये है. आज आवश्यकता है की हम अपनी धरोहर और संस्कृति को सहेज कर रखे और उनके अस्तित्व की रक्षा करें.
