मिथिला पेंटिंग का डंका देश ही नहीं, विदेशों में भी बज रहा है, लेकिन उसी मिथिलांचल की एक कला आज अपने अस्तित्व और प्रचार-प्रसार के लिए जी-तोड़ मेहनत कर रहा है. यह कला है – सिक्की कला. सिक्की कला से बननेवाली कलाकृतियाँ न केवल खूबसूरत होती हैं, बल्कि महिलाओं को स्वरोजगार भी उपलब्ध कराने में सक्षम है. कई लोग इसे मिथिलांचल की गरीबी का सौंदर्य कहते हैं. सच तो यह भी है कि लोगों की कठिन परिस्थितियों में रहने वाली जीवनशैली से प्रमुखता से उभर कर निकला गरीबी और कठिन परिस्थितियों में कला किस प्रकार जन्म लेती है और पहचान बनाती है सिक्की कला इसका प्रतीक है.
सिक्की कला : कल, आज और कल
सिक्की कला बिहार के मिथिलांचल की प्रमुख कलाओं में से एक है. सिक्की एक तरह की घास (खर) होती है, जो मिथिलांचल में नदी और तालाबों के किनारे पाई जाती है. यह घास सड़कों और तालाबों के किनारे भी देखी जाती है. सिक्की से बनी कलाकृतियाँ इतनी मनमोहक होती है कि इनसे नजर हटाए न हटे. ये कला देश के साथ विदेश में भी खूब पसंद की जाती है. पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी इस कला का विकास होता रहा और आज यह कला अपने नए अवतार में आगे बढ़ रहा है. इस कला के लिए रैयाम गांव की विदेश्वरी देवी को वर्ष 1969 में तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपति जाकिर हुसैन द्वारा राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया था.
सिक्की का इतिहास
सिक्की कला का इतिहास बताता है कि सिक्की तकरीबन 100 वर्षों से भी पहले से चली आ रही है. इस कला का सटीक समय बता पाना थोड़ा मुश्किल हैं, लेकिन इसका जिक्र प्राचीन भारत में मिलता आ रहा है. मिथिलांचल की महिलाएं आज भी सिक्की से वस्तुएं बनाती हंै. सिक्की कला उनके लिए एक अच्छा रोजगार का साधन साबित हुई है.
सबसे पहले सिक्की को काट कर सुखाया जाता है. उसके बाद रंग बिरंगे रंगों में रंगा जाता है. इस सब के बाद टकुआ की मदद से अलग अलग वस्तुओं में इन्हें ढाला जाता है. बता दें कि टकुआ एक तरह की सुई होती है, जिसकी मदद से वस्तुओं को आकार दिया जाता है.
सिक्की से बनाई जाने वाली वस्तुएं
मौनी- यह एक तरह की ट्रे होती जिसमे ताजे फल और पान के पत्ते रखे जाते हैं.
पौती- पौती एक छोटा डब्बा होता है जो मेवा, आभूषण और कीमती वस्तुएं को रखने के काम आता है.
झप्पा- एक बड़ा कंटेनर होता जिसमे अनाज रखा जाता है.
गुलमा- छोटा कंटेनर होता है.
सजी- फूलदान के लिए उपयोग होता है.

आज सिक्की कला में काफी बदलाव आ गया है. सिक्की का कम मात्रा में पाया जाना इस कला के लिए एक तरह का अभिशाप बन जाना है. सिक्की का व्यापारिक उद्देश्य के लिए उत्पादन नहीं के बराबर हो रहा है, जिससे इस कला के अस्तित्व पर संकट उत्पन्न हो गया है. लेकिन आज भी मिथिलांचल के मधुबनी, दरभंगा और सीतामढ़ी की कुछ महिलाएं सिक्की से वस्तुएं बनाती हंै. राज्य सरकार की ओर से भी कई प्रयास किए गए हैं. इस दिशा में रैयाम गावं में पश्चिमी टोला का सिक्की कला सेंटर सिक्की कलाकारों के लिए वरदान साबित हो रहा है. अब सिक्की से पारंपरिक वस्तुओ के साथ-साथ पेन बॉक्स, मोबाइल केस, खिलोने जैसी वस्तुओं भी बनाई जा रही है.
