‘समसारा’ और ‘वैली औफ फ्लावर्स’ जैसी सफलतम फिल्मों के निर्देशक पान नलिन को भारतीय फिल्मकार भले न माना जाता हो मगर उन की फिल्मों को यूरोप और पूरे विश्व में हमेशा न सिर्फ सराहा गया, बल्कि कई अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कारों से नवाजा गया. वे लेखक, विज्ञापन फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक, डौक्यूमैंट्री फिल्मकार भी हैं. वे अब तक ‘कुंभ मेला’, ‘द नागास’, ‘काल’ सहित तकरीबन 15 डौक्यूमैंट्री फिल्में बना चुके हैं. उन की पहली फिल्म ‘समसारा’ लद्दाखी भाषा में थी, जिस ने 130 करोड़ रुपए से अधिक कमाए थे.पान नलिन एक भारतीय फिल्म निर्देशक हैं. उन्हें हिंदी सिनेमा में फिल्म वैली ऑफ फ्लावर्स जैसी फिल्मों के लिए जाना जाता है.
पान-नलिन का जन्म गुजरात के एक छोटे से कस्बे में हुआ था. वह एक बेहद निम्न माध्यमवर्गीय परिवार से ताल्लुकात रखते थे. उनके पिता एक टील स्टाल संचालक थे. पान ने अपनी शुरुआती पढाई गुजरात से ही सम्पन्न की है. उन्होंने अपनी पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट की मानक डिग्री एम.एस यूनिवर्सिटी से पूरी की है. हिंदी सिनेमा में आपने से पहले उन्होंने तकरीबन बीस से अधिक शोर्ट फिल्म्स का निर्देशन और निर्माण किया. उन्हें हिंदी सिनेमा में पहचान वर्ष 2001फिल्म सम्सरा से मिली. उसके बाद उन्होंने वैली ऑफ फ्लावर्स निर्देशित की. जिसे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्टार पर आलोचकों द्वारा सराहा गया.
नलिन कुमार पंड्या ने फिल्म निर्देशक बनने के लिए बड़ा संघर्ष किया, पर उन्हें सफलता नहीं मिली. बौलीवुड से उन्हें तिरस्कार के अलावा कुछ नहीं मिला. तब उन्होंने 1991 में 15 मिनट की ‘खजुराहो’ नामक एक लघु फिल्म का निर्माण किया. इस फिल्म ने उन्हें कान इंटरनैशनल फिल्म फैस्टिवल पहुंचा दिया, जहां उन की कई यूरोपीय फिल्मकारों से मुलाकात हुई और फिर वे यूरोपीय फिल्मकारों के साथ मिल कर डौक्यूमैंट्री फिल्में बनाते हुए नलिन कुमार पंड्या से पान नलिन हो गए. आज की तारीख में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म जगत, खासकर यूरोप में पान नलिन बहुत बड़े फिल्मकार के रूप में पहचान रखते हैं. 4 दिसंबर, 2015 को उन की नई फिल्म ‘एंग्री इंडियन गौडेसेज’ भारत में रिलीज हुई. इस से पहले यह फिल्म भी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म समारोहों में जबरदस्त शोहरत बटोर चुकी है.
बहरहाल, पान जैसे निर्देशकों की फिल्मों की विडंबना यही है कि उन्हें समीक्षकों का भले ढेर सारा प्यार मिल जाए लेकिन दर्शकों का प्यार नहीं मिलता. चंद सिनेमाघरों में रिलीज हो कर ये फिल्में पुरस्कार समारोहों की रौनक बढ़ा सकती हैं लेकिन जनमानस का सिनेमा बनने का सफर पूरा करने के लिए पान को कलात्मक व व्यावसायिक सिनेमा के बीच संतुलन बनाना ही होगा वरना वे ऐसी ही फिल्मों तक सीमित रहेंगे.
