के. जे. येसुदास के सदाबहार नगमें किसी को भी मंत्रमुग्ध कर सकते हैं. येसुदास का यूं तो 60 दशक में ही फिल्मी गायिकी का करियर शुरू हो चुका था, लेकिन उन्हें असली पहचान मिली 70 के दशक के आखिरी सालों में. बासु चटर्जी की फिल्म ‘छोटी सी बात’ में उन्होंने एक गीत ‘जानेमन जानेमन तेरे दो नयन’ गाया था जो आज भी सुपरहिट है. उन्होंने हिंदी सिनेमा के दिग्गज सितारे अमोल पालेकर, अमिताभ बच्चन और जितेंद्र के लिए कई हिट गाने गाये.
येसुदास ने अपने पांच दशक से अधिक के करियर में हिंदी, मलयालम, तमिल, कन्नड़, बंगाली और तेलुगु के साथ-साथ अरबी, अंग्रेजी, लैटिन और रूसी सहित कई भारतीय भाषाओं में 80,000 से अधिक गाने रिकॉर्ड किये हैं. येसुदास 8 बार राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार जीत चुके हैं जो एक रिकॉर्ड हैं. वे वर्ष 1977 में पद्मश्री, 2002 में पद्म भूषण और साल 2017 में पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित किये जा चुके हैं. विभिन्न राज्यों में उन्हें बेस्ट प्लेबैक सिंगर के लिए 43 अवॉर्ड मिल चुके है. उन्हें देश-विदेशों में भी कई प्रतिष्ठित सम्मानों से नवाजा गया. उन्हें इतने अवॉर्ड मिल चुके हैं कि साल 1987 में उन्हें कहना पड़ गया कि अब मुझे कोई अवॉर्ड न दें.
नका जन्म 10 जनवरी 1940 को केरल के फोर्ट कोच्चि में हुआ था. उनके पिता अगस्टिन जोसेफ प्रसिद्ध मलयालम शास्त्रीय संगीतकार और उस समय के स्टेज एक्टर थे. येसुदास के पिता ही उनके पहले गुरू थे. वे मूलरूप से मलयाली भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीतकार हैं लेकिन उन्हें पूरा देश सुनता है. देश में ही नहीं विदेशों में भी उनके कॉन्सर्ट होते हैं. येसुदास ने भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत के अलावा भक्ति और कई फिल्मों के गीत गाये हैं. उनके यादगार गीतों में ‘जानेमन जानेमन तेरे दो नयन’, ‘गोरी तेरा गांव बड़ा प्यारा’, ‘जब दीप जले आना’, ‘का करूं सजनी’, ‘मधुबन खुशबू देता है’, ‘इन नजारों को तुम देखो’, ‘दिल के टुकड़े-टुकड़े करके’, ‘चांद जैसे मुखड़े पे बिंदिया सितारा’, ‘कहां से आए बदरा’ और ‘सुरमई अंखियों में’ शामिल है.
