भारत एक ऐसा देश है जो कि विभिन्न संस्कृतियों के मेल से बना है। ये वो देश है जहाँ का हरेक दिन उत्सव है, जहाँ केवल एक व्यक्ति ही नहीं बल्कि पूरा समाज सामूहिक रूप से हर दिन का उत्सव मनाते आया है। पूरी दुनिया में सिर्फ भारत ही एक ऐसा देश है जहाँ सबसे अधिक त्योहार मनाए जाते हैं, इनमें से कुछ त्योहार पूरे भारत में मनाए जाते हैं तो कुछ भारत के अलग-अलग प्रांतों में। जब हमारी भारतीय संस्कृति में हर दिन उत्सव, हर शाम एक त्योहार है तो फिर पता नहीं क्यों हमें अलग से अंग्रेज़ी सभ्यता के ‘डे’ मनाने की ज़रूरत पड़ गई?
आज आप देखेंगे कि जिस भारतीय संस्कृति में किसी के प्रति प्यार दिखाने के लिए, किसी को सम्मान देने के लिए किसी तरह के दिन की ज़रूरत नहीं होती थी, आज वही संस्कृति किसी को प्यार और सम्मान देने के लिए ‘किसी अंग्रेजी डे’ का इंतज़ार करती है। भारत में जिस तरह से ‘अंग्रेजी डे’ की लोकप्रियता बढ़ रही है उसमें युवाओं की भागीदारी ज़्यादा है। फिर भले ही वे ‘डे’ भारत के दिए हो या किसी और राष्ट्र के क्योंकि वो ‘डे’ है, युवा उन्हें याद रखते हैं।
आज का युवा ‘रक्षाबंधन’ को इतना महत्व नहीं देता जितना ‘सिबलिंग डे’ को देता है, आज वो ‘भाईदूज’ को भी इतना नहीं मानता जितना ‘ब्रदर्स डे’ को मानता है, आज वो ‘टीचर्स डे’ तो याद रखता है लेकिन ‘गुरुपूर्णिमा’ भूल जाता है, आजकल तो वो अपने दोस्त के प्रति आभार भी ‘फ्रेंडशिप डे’ के ज़रिए व्यक्त करता है। जो संस्कृति बरसों-बरस ‘कृष्ण-सुदामा की मित्रता’ की परिचायक रही, आज वही संस्कृति दूसरी सभ्यता के रंग में रंगी मिलावटी संस्कृति की परिचायक बन गई है, जिस भारतीय सभ्यता में हर दिन प्यार का दिन होता था, आज वही सभ्यता विदेशी सभ्यता से प्रभावित होकर ‘हफ़्ते भर के प्यार’ का जश्न ‘वैलेंटाइन डे’ के रूप में मनाने लगी है।
आमतौर पर ऐसा माना जाता है कि विदेशी लोग एक निश्चित उम्र के बाद या आत्म-निर्भर बन जाने के बाद अपने माता-पिता से दूर हो जाते हैं, इसलिए कम से कम वो एक दिन भी अपने माता-पिता के साथ रह सकें इसलिए वे ‘मदर्स डे’ और ‘फादर्स डे’ जैसे त्योहार मनाते हैं। लेकिन भारतीय परिदृश्य में माता-पिता की भूमिका उम्र के किसी भी पड़ाव में कम नहीं आंकी जा सकती, पर अब तो ये बात भी जैसे गुज़रे जमाने की लगती है। क्योंकि अब हम आधुनिक हो चुके हैं, बाजार ने भी हमारी इस आधुनिकता को मनचाहे ढंग से बदला है। आज के बच्चे अगर माता-पिता के प्रति अपने कर्तव्य नहीं निभा पाते या उन्हें समय नहीं दे पाते तो वह ‘मदर्स डे’ व ‘फादर्स डे’ के उपलक्ष्य में बाजार में मिलने वाले तरह-तरह के कार्ड, तोहफे देकर अपने कर्तव्यों की इतिश्री मान लेते हैं। और जैसे ही ‘डे’ ख़त्म, एक दिन का वो प्यार भी ख़त्म, उसके बाद न तो उन्हें माँ से मतलब, न पिता से मतलब।
आज भारत के लोग ‘जन्मदिन’ नहीं बल्कि ‘बर्थडे’ मनाने लगे हैं। वो केक काटते हैं, बर्थडे सांग गाते हैं और पता नहीं क्या क्या करते हैं।
संत श्री तरुण सागर जी ने कहा हैं- कि ‘लोग अपना जन्मदिन केक काटकर, मोमबत्तियां बुझाकर मनाते हैं। केक काटते हैं और बोलते हैं- हैप्पी बर्थडे टू यू! मोमबत्तियां बुझाना अच्छी बात नहीं हैं। यह तो प्रकाश से अंधकार की ओर जाना हुआ जबकि हम तो प्रकाश के पुजारी हैं। दीप जलाइए और गाइए- “ज्योति से ज्योति जलाते चलो” इस तरह जन्मदिन मनाओ, यह फूंकना-थूंकना बंद करो।’
पश्चिमी सभ्यता में समाज से पहले ‘व्यक्ति’ है लेकिन भारतीय सभ्यता में व्यक्ति से पहले ‘समाज’ है और जब ये समाज मिलकर किसी दिन का जश्न मनाता है तो वो ‘त्योहार’ बन जाता है। और हमें चाहिए कि हम दिनों के आधार पर त्योहार मनाए, ‘डे’ के आधार पर नहीं।
