Musk Deer: कबीर के इस दोहे के बारे में हिन्दी साहित्य की पुस्तकों में पढ़ा जरूर होगा। इस दोहे का भावार्थ है कि जिस तरह कस्तूरी की महक उसके मृग के नाभि से आती है लेकिन वह पूरी जिंदगी खोजता रहता है। इधर-उधर भटकता है, वन-उपवन खोजता रहता है। उसी प्रकार राम भी हर घट-घट में है लेकिन हम उसे इधर-उधर खोजते रहते हैं।
इस दोहे में प्रयुक्त एक शब्द कस्तूरी के बारे में आपको जानकर काफी हैरानी होगी। कस्तूरी एक प्रकार की सुगंध है। यह हिरण की एक विशेष प्रजाति में पाई जाती है। वैसे तो आम-जन इसे हिरण की ही प्रजाति समझते हैं लेकिन वैज्ञानिक इसे इससे इतर देखते हैं। यह एशिया में मिलने वाला एक प्रजाति है, जिसके सात ज्ञात जातियां हैं। इसे वैज्ञानिक तौर पर मोस्कस कहा जाता है। यहां एक ट्रिविया है कि इसके पिछले पैर आगे के पैरों से अधिक लंबे होते हैं।
भारत के उत्तराखंड राज्य में पाए जाने वाले सुंदरतम जीवों में से एक है कस्तूरी मृग। 2 हजार से 5 हजार मीटर उंचे हिम शिखरों पर पाया जाने वाले इस जानवर को हिमालयन मस्क डिअर भी कहते हैं। कस्तूरी मृग ना सिर्फ अपनी सुंदरता के लिए अपितु अपनी नाभी में पाए जाने वाली कस्तूरी के लिए अधिक प्रसिद्ध है। यह इसके पेट के नीचे एक थैलीनुमा संरचन में इकठ्ठा होती है। कस्तूरी क उपयोग औषधि के रूप में किया जाता है। दमा, मिर्गी, निमोनिया आदि में इससे दवाएं बनती हैं। ।एक हिरण में लगभग 30 से 45 ग्राम तक कस्तूरी पाई जाती है। कस्तूरी मृग की सूंघने की शक्ति बड़ी तेज होती है।
केवल एशिया में ही बचे हैं कस्तूरी मृग
जी हां, कस्तूरी मृग यूरोप आदि देशों में लगभग समाप्त हो चुकी है। यह अब सिर्फ एशिया में ही बची है। वो भी मुख्य रूप से दक्षिणी एशिया में ही। भारत के हिमाचल के चंबा जिले में इनकी मौजूदगी, यहां के वन्य जीवन को खास बनाती है।

जिस कस्तूरी को ये हिरण पूरी जिंदगी खोजते फिरते हैं। उसे सिर्फ ये ही नहीं बल्कि शिकारी भी खोजते रहते हैं। हां, फर्क बस इतना होता है कि जिस मृग से यह कस्तूरी की महक आ रही होती है उसे इसका पता नहीं होता है और इससे लाभ लेने वाला को इसका पता होता है। कस्तूरी मृग को ना सिर्फ इनकी कस्तूरी के लिए बल्कि इनके मांस के लिए भी मारा जाता रहा है। हालांकि, इसे वन्यजीव संरक्षण अधिनियम, 1972 की अनुसूची एक में रखा गया है। इसका मतलब, आप इसका शिकार नहीं कर सकते। क्या आपको पता है कि इसकी कस्तूरी का इस्तेमाल इत्र बनाने में भी किया जाता है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाजार में इसकी कीमत लाखों में है। कस्तूरी मृग की यही खासियत इसकी दुश्मन बन जाती है।
