लाख की चूड़ियों का वर्णन हमारे भारतीय वेद-पुराणों में भी है
भारत के लगभग हर घर में महिलाएं चूड़ियां पहनती है| चाहे कुंवारी हो या शादीशुदा हर किसी को चूड़ियां पहनने का शौक होता है और पहने भी क्यूं ना? यह तो महिलाओं की अत्यंत प्रिय होती है| चूड़ियों से उनकी खूबसूरती पर चार चाँद जो लग जाते है। साथ ही इतिहास से पता चलता है कि चूड़ियों की परंपरा हज़ारों सालों से चली आ रही है और चूड़ियां कई प्रकार के धातुओं से भी बनाई जाती है|जैसे टेराकोटा, सीप, लकड़ी और कांच आदि| लेकिन लाख की चूड़ियां महिलाओं में ज्यादा प्रसिद्ध है| इन चूड़ियों को बनाने की कला में जयपुर के शाही घरों को महारथ हासिल है| पर आपको यह पता है कि इसे कैसे बनाते है|
लाख कीटों से उत्पन्न होने वाली राल है। यह कीट पेड़ों पर रह कर उनसे अपना भोजन लेते हैं और इनकी राल एक ऐसा प्राकृतिक उत्पाद है जिनका उपयोग भोजन, फर्नीचर, कॉस्मेटिक और औषधी में भी होता है । कीटों में से केरिया लक्का अथवा लाख कीट से ही लाख की चूड़ियां बनाई जाती है| इनको लाख के उत्पादन के लिए पाला जाता है। भारत में केरिया लाक्का कीट ढ़ाक, बेर और कुसुम जैसे पेड़ों पर होते हैं। हैरानी की बात तो यह है कि इनका वर्णन वेद पुराण और प्राचीन ग्रंथों में भी है| वेदों में लाख का उल्लेख लक्ष तरु या लाख के पेड़ के नाम से है और अथर्व वेद में लाख के कीट के प्राकृतिक वास का वर्णन है|
चूड़ियां बनाने के लिए सबसे पहले केरिया नमक कीड़े में से लाल रंग के रेसिन स्राव को इकठा किया जाता है| फिर उसे काफी देर तक धोया जाता है| जिससे सारी गंदगी निकल जाए| इसके बाद लाख को काफी देर तक पिघलाया जाता है| ताकि उसके अंदर बची सारी गंदगी अच्छे से निकल जाए| उसके बाद लाल चटक रंग के लाख के अंदर वैक्स, टाइटेनियम और रंग मिलाया जाता है| फिर लाख को गरम कर के गोल चूड़ियों का आकार दिया जाता है| अंत में उनको सितारे मोतियों से सजाया जाता है|आपको यह बता दें कि जयपुर में कारीगर अभी भी लाख की चूड़ियों को पुराने तरीके से ही बनाते है| अगर आप जयपुर में उस जगह जाएंगे जहां चूड़ियां बनाई जाती है| तो आपको जो गंध आएगी वो लाख के पिघलने की होगी| पर आपको यह नहीं पता होगा कि भगवान शिव और पार्वती की शादी में लखेरा नामक चूड़ी बनाने वाले एक समुदाय ने पार्वती माता के लिए चूड़ियां बनाई थी| लाख का इतिहास हमारे भारत के देवी देवताओं से भी जुड़ा है|
