आपने देखा तो होगा ही कि भगवान शिव का प्रतिरूप शिवलिंग की पूजा में बेल पत्र, पुष्प, धतूरा, दूध, फल तथा जल के साथ-साथ भस्म भी लगाया जाता है। हिन्दू रीति में केवल भगवान शिव ही हैं जिन्हें भस्म यानी कि राख चढ़ाई जाती है या यूं कहें भस्माभिषेक किया जाता है। लेकिन क्या आप जानते हैं कि भगवान शिव को भस्म क्यूं लगाया जाता है। इससे जुड़ी बातें हमें शिव पुराण में देखने को मिल जाती है। आइए विस्तार से जानते हैं कि भगवान शिव अपने शरीर पर भस्म क्यों धारण करते हैं।
कहानी की शुरूआत होती है प्रजापति दक्ष से
शिवपुराण में वर्णित कथा के अनुसार देवी सति के पिता प्रजापति दक्ष विष्णु भक्त थे। वे भगवान शिव को बिल्कुल भी पसंद नहीं करते थे। ना ही भगवान शिव के साथ अपनी पुत्री सति का विवाह करने के लिए तैयार थे। लेकिन सति को तो शिव का ही होना था। सति और शिव का मिलन तो प्रकृति और पुरूष का मिलन था, जिससे ही जीवन अपना आधार लेती है। अपनी पुत्री के हठ और नारद ऋषि के समझाने पर प्रजापति दक्ष माता सति और भगवान शिव का विवाह तो करा देते हैं लेकिन अपने जमाता को वह मान नहीं देते हैं जिसके वह हकदार थे।
माता सति ने क्यूं किया आत्मदाह
एक बार प्रजापति दक्ष एक विशाल यज्ञ का आयोजन करते हैं। जिसमें सभी देवी-देवता सहित सभी गणमान्य जनों को बुलाया जाता है लेकिन भगवान शिव को आमंत्रित नहीं किया जाता। अपने पिता के इस व्यवहार को अनदेखा करने के बाद भी भगवान शिव की अर्धांगिनी माता सति अपने मायके चली जाती हैं, उस यज्ञ में शामिल होने के लिए। जिससे उन्हें अपने मायके में पिता के द्वारा अपमान सहना पड़ता है। जिसके बाद वह यज्ञ की अग्नि में आत्मदाह कर लेती हैं।
सति का विरह से भस्म तक की कहानी
इस सूचना से शिव बहुत ही क्रोधित हो जात हैं और अपने ही एक अवतार वीरभद्र द्वारा प्रजापति दक्ष का सिर काट देते हैं और माता सति का शव लेकर कई दिनों तक बेसुध भटकने लगते हैं। जिसके बाद भगवान विष्णु अपने सुदर्शन की सहायता से माता सति के शव को कई टुकड़ों में बांट कर उसे अंतिम गति देते हैं। कहा यह भी जाता है कि माता सति के शव का टुकड़ा जहां जहां धरती पर गिरा वहां आज शक्ति पीठ है। इस घटना के बाद भगवान शिव के पास अब माता सति का केवल राख ही शेष रह जाता है। जिसके बाद उसे भी वह अपना लेते हैं और पूरे शरीर पर लगा लेते हैं। यह प्रेम की पराकाष्ठा का एक शीर्ष उदाहरण है। तब से लेकर आज तक भगवान शिव की भस्म-आरती का विधि करने के बारे में बताया जाता है।
भस्म से जुड़ी है एक और कहानी
कहते हैं भगवान शिव को भस्म लगाने से जुड़ी एक और भी मान्यता है। चूंकि भगवान शिव का निवास स्थान कैलाश पर्वत था, जहां बहुत ज्यादा ठंड होती है। हम सभी यह जानते हैं कि भगवान शिव पूर्ण रूप से प्रकृति और उसके नियमों का अनुसरण करते हैं और करने की शिक्षा देते हैं। ऐसे में भीषण ठंड से बचने के लिए भगवान शिव अपने शरीर पर भस्म रमाते हैं। ताकि प्रकृति और जीवन के मर्म को समझा जा सके।
भगवान शिव का भस्माभिषेक हमें क्या शिक्षा देता है
शिव पुराण में भगवान शिव के भस्म आरती के बारे में बताया गया है। साथ ही यह भी बताया गया है कि इस संसार में कुछ भी स्थाई नहीं हैं। सब का एक न एक दिन अंत होना है। प्रकृति की चीज को प्रकृति को ही लौटाना होता है। इस कारण इस नश्वर जीवन और काया पर कभी भी अहंकार नहीं करना चाहिए। भगवान शिव के शरीर पर लगा भस्म हमें हमेशा यह याद दिलाता है कि संसार की प्रत्येक इकाई का अंतिम सत्य भी यही है।
