पुरानी दिल्ली की रौनक में चार-चाँद लगाता है जामा मस्जिद. मुगल काल के स्थापत्य कला को नया आयाम देता है जामा मस्जिद. बादशाह अकबर की परंपरा को आगे बढ़ाते हुए उनके पोते शाहजहां ने दिल्ली में जामा मस्जिद का निर्माण कराया. इस मस्जिद की वास्तुकला में हिंदू और इस्लामी शैलियों का प्रदर्शन किया गया था, जो कि आगरा में लाल किले में मोती मस्जिद को दोहराने के लिए बनाया गया था. बताया जाता है कि मस्जिद की दीवारें एक निश्चित कोण पर झुकी हुई हैं, ताकि अगर भूकंप आए तो दीवारें बाहर की ओर गिरेंगी.
आइए हम जामा मस्जिद से जुड़ी और भी बातें आपको बताते हैं. जामा मस्जिद अपने जमाने में दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी और संभवतया सबसे अधिक भव्य मस्जिद रही है. यह लाल किले के समाने वाली सड़क पर है. जामा मस्जिद लाल किले से 500 मीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है. पुरानी दिल्ली की यह विशाल मस्जिद मुगल शासक शाहजहां के उत्कृष्ट वास्तुकलात्मक सौंदर्य बोध का नमूना है, जिसमें एक साथ 25,000 लोग बैठ कर प्रार्थना कर सकते हैं. मस्जिद में प्रवेश हेतु तीन द्वार है. तीनों ही आम लोगों के लिए खुले है, लेकिन सबसे मशहूर पूर्वी द्वार है, जिसका इस्तेमाल खुद शाहजहां करते थे.
दिल्ली में जामा मस्जिद नहीं देखे, तो क्या देखे !
मस्जिद की दोनों और 130 फीट ऊंची मीनारे हैं, जिनमें से एक मीनार आम जनता के लिए खुली है. 50 रुपये का टिकट लेकर आप उसमें ऊंचाई से दिल्ली शहर का नजारा देख सकते हैं. इस मस्जिद का माप 65 मीटर लम्बा और 35 मीटर चैड़ा है. इसके आंगन में 100 वर्ग मीटर का स्थान है. जामा मस्जिद का निर्माण 30 फुट ऊंचे एक चबूतरे पर किया है, जो लाल पत्थर से बना है. मस्जिद को बनाने के लिए भी लाल पत्थर का इस्तेमाल हुआ है. दरअसल मुगल बादशाह लाल पत्थर के मुरीद थे और यही आगे चलकर उनकी वास्तुकला की पहचान बना था. उनके द्वारा बनवाई गई लगभग सभी इमारतें लाल पत्थर से ही बनी है.
इतिहास बताता है कि सत्रहवीं सदी में जब शाहजहां हिंदुस्तान के बादशाह थे, तब वे अपने निवास स्थान लाल किले के पास इबादत करने के लिए एक जगह चाहते थे. उनकी इसी इच्छा के तहत उस्ताद खलील खान ने एक बड़ी-सी मस्जिद का नक्शा तैयार किया, जो वर्तमान में जामा मस्जिद दिल्ली के नाम से जानी जाती है. जामा मस्जिद का निर्माण 1644 में शुरू हुआ और 5000 मजदूरों की कड़ी मेहनत के बाद 1656 में पूरा हुआ. मुगल बादशाह शाहजहां को भारत में उनकी शिल्प कला और वास्तुकला में रूचि के लिए जाना जाता था. आगरा का ताजमहल और दिल्ली के लाल किले का निर्माण भी शाहजाहां ने ही करवाया और ये दिल्ली की जामा मस्जिद उनका आखरी निर्माण कार्य था.
इसे मस्जिद-ए-जहानुमा भी कहते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है विश्व पर विजय दृष्टिकोण वाली मस्जिद. इसे बादशाह शाहजहां ने एक प्रधान मस्जिद के रूप में बनवाया था. एक सुंदर झरोखेनुमा दीवार इसे मुख्य सड़क से अलग करती है. इसके पूर्व में यह स्मारक लाल किले की ओर स्थित है और इसके चार प्रवेश द्वार हैं, चार स्तंभ और दो मीनारें हैं. बता दें कि जामा मस्जिद अन्य मस्जिदों से काफी अलग थी, इसलिए मस्जिद के पहले इमाम भी खास बुलाए गए थे. जामा मस्जिद के पहले इमाम उज्बेकिस्तान के एक शहर बुखारा के निवासी थे. आज भी मस्जिद में इमाम का काम उनका ही परिवार करता है और उन्हें बुखारी के नाम से जाना जाता है.
दिल्ली के जामा मस्जिद में हर धर्म का व्यक्ति जा सकता है. केवल 5 बार होने वाली नमाज के समय केवल मुस्लिमों की ही प्रवेश है. मस्जिद में प्रवेश हेतु कोई शुल्क नहीं है. मस्जिद में छोटे कपडे़ जैसे – कैप्री, शॉर्ट्स इत्यादि पहन कर प्रवेश वर्जित है, इसलिए जब भी आप जामा मस्जिद घूमने की योजना बनाएं ये बेहद जरूरी है कि पूरे कपड़े पहन कर जाएं.
