जब चलता था दूरदर्शन पर ‘हमलोग’
आज भले ही लोग दूरदर्शन को नहीं देखते हों. आज की पीढ़ी को उसके कार्यक्रम पसंद नहीं आते हों. लेकिन, एक समय था जब दूरदर्शन के अलावा कुछ भी नहीं था. जब रेडियो के बाद मनोरंजन का साधन टेलीविजन बना, तो वह एक सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा से भी जुड़ा. जिनके घर टेलीविजन हो, समाज में उनकी काफी इज्जत होती थी. अस्सी के दशक टेलीविजन और दूरदर्शन एक दूसरे के पर्याय थे.
उसी समय में ‘हम लोग’ भारतीय टेलीविजन पर प्रसारित होने वाला पहला सोप-ओपेरा था. इसका प्रसारण दूरदर्शन पर किया जाता था. इसका प्रसारण 7 जुलाई 1984 को प्रारंभ हुआ और यह बहुत जल्दी ही अत्यंत लोकप्रिय हो गया. जिनके घर टेलीविजन होता था, उनके यहां समय से पहले ही आस-पड़ोस के लोग एकत्र होने लगते थे. सभी लोग मिलकर ‘हम लोग’ देखते थे.
भारतीय दर्शकों को यह धारावाहिक इतना पसंद आया कि इसके चरित्र विख्यात हो गए. लोगों कि आम बातचीत का मुद्दा बन गए. असल में, ‘हम लोग’ 1980 के दशक के भारतीय मध्यम-वर्गीय परिवार और उनके दैनिक संघर्ष और आकांक्षाओं की कहानी है. ‘हम लोग’ का विचार तत्कालीन सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्री वसंत साठे को उनकी 1982 की मेक्सिको यात्रा के बाद आया. इसकी योजना का विकास लेखक मनोहर श्याम जोशी, जिन्होंने इस धारावाहिक की पटकथा लिखी और पी. कुमार वासुदेव, एक फिल्मकार जिन्होंने इसका निर्देशन किया, की सहायता से किया गया.
हम लोग की कहानी निम्न-मध्यवर्गीय संयुक्त परिवार की है. एक ऐसे परिवार की, जिसमें विवाह योग्य कुंवारी लड़कियां हैं. विविधता में एकता वाले बसेसरनाथ के परिवार की इस कहानी ने उस समय में घर-घर में चर्चा का विषय ही बदलकर रख दिया. इस धारावाहिक से हिंदी-भाषी इलाकों के मध्यवर्ग और टेलीविजन के एक नए रिश्ते की शुरुआत हुई. छोटा परिवार, सुखी परिवार के आदर्श को लोकप्रिय बनाने के उद्देश्य से इस धारावाहिक का निर्माण हुआ था. लेकिन कहानी कहने की शैली इतनी यथार्थपरक थी कि दर्शकों ने इस धारावाहिक की भरपूर सराहना की. निम्न-मध्यवर्ग के जीवन से जुड़ी कथा को आधार बनाकर तैयार किया गया कोई धारावाहिक कितना लोकप्रिय हो सकता है, हम लोग उसके लिए प्रतिमान की तरह है.
