कहते है काला सोना यानी कि काली मिर्च का इतिहास 4000 साल से भी ज्यादा पुराना है। इसे इतिहास के पन्नों में सबसे पुराने और मशहूर मशालों के लिस्ट में शामिल किया जाता रहा है। कहते हैं कि काली मिर्च एक मसाला नहीं बल्कि समय की एक कड़ी में मुद्रा की तरह व्यवहार में ली जाती थी। कई इतिहासकार तो यहाँ तक मानते है कि इन्हीं मसालों के व्यापार का रास्ता आगे चलकर वैश्विक स्तर पर ग्लोबलाइजेशन की बड़ी वजह बना।
क्या हुआ जब फिरौती में मांगी थी काली मिर्च
जी हाँ सुनने में कुछ हस्यास्पद लग रहा होगा, लेकिन इतिहास के पन्नों में दर्ज इस किस्से से आप इस काले सोने की अहमियत समझ सकते हैं। कहते है इसके व्यापार का किस्सा रोमन संस्कृति की एक कहानी से जुड़ा ह। यह मसाला रामसीज द्वितीय की नाक में पाया गया था। इतिहास रामसीस द्वितीय को रामसीस द ग्रेट के नाम से भी याद करता है। रामसीस द ग्रेट इजिप्ट के 19 वें राजवंश के तीसरी पीढ़ी के उत्तराधिकारी थे। इस मसाले का उपयोग यूरोप में भी बहुतायत मात्रा में होता था। कहते हैं 410 ईसापूर्व में आक्रमणकारियों ने फिरौती के तौर पर 3 हजार पौंड काली मिर्च की मांग की थी। जब उन्होंने रोम को घेर लिया था।
कहते हैं 10 वी और 11 वीं शताब्दी में अंग्रेज राजा अपने यहां आने वाले जहाजों से टोल टैक्स के तौर पर काली मिर्च ही वसूला करते थे। इस समय तक इस मार्ग के व्यापार पर अरबों ने का दबदबा काफी बढ़ गया था। समय के साथ-साथ चीजें बदलने लगीं और नए समुद्री मार्ग ने कोलंबस और वास्कोडिगामा के माध्यम से एक नए व्यापारिक मार्ग और नई व्यवस्था को हाथों हाथ लिया। कहते हैं कि विदेशियों द्वारा खोजा गाय यह नया व्यापार मार्ग मसालों की खोज के लिए ही था। कहते हैं उस वक्त 10 लाख किलोग्राम काली मिर्च का व्यापार हर साल होता था और समय के साथ इस पर डचों ने अपना नियंत्रण कर लिया।
यकीन मानिए कि एक जमाने में काली मिर्च पूरी दुनिया में ताकत और पैसे का प्रतीक थी। यूरोपीय लोग इसे यूं ही काला सोना नहीं कहते थे। क्या आपको पता है आज भी दुनिया में सबसे ज्यादा काली मिर्च का उत्पादन हम करते हैं। भारत का राज्य केरल आज भी दुनिया का एकमात्र ऐसा राज्य है जहां सबसे ज्यादा मसालों की खेती होती है और व्यापार भी। कहते हैं भारत के घुमंतू पूर्वज इसे लेकर आए थे और केरल के गर्म और नम वातावरण ने इसे अपने गोद में पनाह दी। सैकड़ो सालों से केरल के मालाबार तट पर काली मिर्च की पैदावार होती रहती है। लेकिन कुछ का मानना है कि काली मिर्च के बीज समुद्र के साथ बहकर इसके तट तक आए होंगे और समय के पहिए ने इसे यहां के आबोहवा में खूब फला-फूला दिया।
दुनिया तो यही मानती है कि काली मिर्च मूल रूप से भारत की ही देन है। केरल के पहाड़ी इलाकों में काली मिर्च के पेड़ बहुतायत में मिल जाएंगे। वहां के लाखों लोगों की जीविका और जीवन का आधार भी यहीं काला सोना है। लोग ऊंचे-ऊंचे पेड़ों पर चढ़ कर इसके गुच्छे को तोड़ कर लाते हैं और बहुत मशक्कत के बाद इनके दानों को गुच्छे से अलग करते हैं। इस कच्चे दानों को जब लगातार कई दिनों तक भरी दुपहरी में सुखाते हैं तब जाकर कहीं इसकी स्वाद से हमारी जिंदगी गुलजार होती है। कहते हैं जिन इलाकों में इसे सूखाने का काम होता है उसके आसपास के इलाकों में इसकी खुशबू फैल जाती है। काली मिर्च की खुशबू एयरफ्रेशनर का काम भी करती है। वातावरण को शुद्ध रखने के साथ-साथ इसके हजार फायदे हैं।
