आज की भागती दौड़ती जिंदगी में लोग अपनी परंपरा को भूलते जा रहे हैं। जिसका परिणाम है कि आज देश में पर्यावरण संकट के साथ-साथ कई अन्य तरह की समस्याएं उत्पन्न हो रही हैं। जिसके चलते मानव जाति और जीव-जंतु के जीवन पर संकट बढ़ता जा रहा है। इस परंपरा में एक दीपावली पर्व पर मिट्टी के दीये जलाना भी है। जिसको आज लोग भूलते जा रहे हैं और उसकी जगह पर इलेक्ट्रानिक लाइटों का उपयोग कर रहे हैं। लेकिन जो सुंदरता मिट्टी के दीये जलने पर दिखती है वो इलेक्ट्रानिक लाइटों के जलने से नहीं। इस बात को स्वयं लोग भी स्वीकार कर रहे हैं और इस परंपरा को लोगों के भूलने पर चिंता भी व्यक्त कर रहे हैं। नगर के बुजुर्ग लोगों का कहना है कि एक समय था जब दीपावली पर्व को लेकर लोग मिट्टी के दीये खरीदने के लिए पहले ही कुम्हार को बता देते थे। तब गांव या अन्य किसी गांव के कुम्हार के घर के सभी सदस्य काम में व्यस्त होते थे।
दीपावली पर्व पर कई लोगों के मांग को पूरा करने में दिन रात एक कर मेहनत करते थे। हालांकि उस समय उतनी आमदनी नहीं होती थी, लेकिन कुम्हारों को भी एक रुचि रहती थी कि इस परंपरा को जीवंत रखना है। लेकिन आज लोग मिट्टी के दीये जलाना धीरे-धीरे कम करते जा रहे हैं। इससे अब कुम्हारों ने भी इसमें रूचि लेना कम कर दिया है। जिसका नतीजा है कि आज दीपावली पर्व में लोग घर में दो-चार मिट्टी के दीये जला कर सिर्फ एक परंपरा को किसी तरह निर्वहन कर रहे हैं। ज्यादातर लोग इलेक्ट्रानिक लाइटों, झालर और अन्य लाइटों की मदद से दीपावली पर्व में अपने घर को रोशनी से जगमग करने की कोशिश करते हैं।
पीढ़ियों से मिट्टी के बर्तन बना रहे कारीगर बताते हैं कि उनके यहां कई वर्षो से मिट्टी के बर्तन और दीये बनाए जा रहे हैं। उन्हें यह काम विरासत में मिला है। पहले तो इस काम में न सिर्फ फायदा था, बल्कि इनकी बिक्री भी खूब होती थी। लेकिन बदलते जमाने और प्लास्टिक-चाइनीज सामानों का प्रयोग बढ़ने की वजह उनके काम पर असर पड़ रहा है। वे बताते हैं कि दीपावली ही एक ऐसा त्यौहार है जिसमें मिट्टी से बने सामानों की अच्छी बिक्री हो जाती है। आम दिनों में तो बस उतना ही खर्चा निकल पाता है जितनी लागत लगाते हैं। यही नहीं, उस जमाने में प्लास्टिक और चाइनीज बर्तनों-खिलौनों का उतना चलन भी नहीं था। इस वजह से उन्हें अच्छी आमदनी मिल जाती थी। मिट्टी के खिलौनों की जगह इलेक्ट्रॉनिक गैजेट्स ने ले ली। पहले चकिया, घरौंदे, गुड्डा-गुड़िया, गुल्लक और छोटे-छोटे बर्तन बच्चों को खूब भाते थे। दीपावली में मिट्टी के बजाय लोग फैंसी दीये खरीद रहे हैं। चाइनीज सामानों ने कुम्हारों को सबसे ज्यादा नुकसान पहुंचाया है। वहीं, हर घर में इलेक्ट्रॉनिक दीये और रंग-बिरंगी झालरे ही नजर आती है। इस वजह से न सिर्फ कुम्हार बेरोजगार हो रहे हैं बल्कि सरकारी मदद की राह देख रहे हैं।
आज समय की मांग है कि हम अपने परंपरा के महत्व को समझे। बाजार के उत्पादों और अपने समाज के विकास और इसकी संरचना को समझना भी हमारी ही जिम्मेदारी है। अगर हम अपनी परंपरा और अपने समाज के उत्पादन और उपभोग में वैचारिक संतुलन मात्र साध लेते हैं तो कोई भी समस्या इतनी बड़ी नहीं कि वह हमारे जीवन या समाज को अव्यवस्थित कर सके। समय है, साधन है, भाव है बस जरूरत है इन सब को एक धागे में बांधने की और फिर से इनकी एक माला बनाने की।
