भारत के बारे में क्या बता गये, मध्यकालीन विदेशी यात्री
FOREIGN TRAVELLERS: पहले के वर्षों में पूरी दुनिया के विद्वान भारत पढ़ने आते थे। उस वक्त ये यात्राएं इतनी भी आसान नहीं होती थी। दुर्गम पहाड़ और कठिन रास्तों पर कई महीने और साल चलने के बाद वे भारत की भूमि पर आकर अपनी जिज्ञासा को शांत करते थे। ये विदेश यात्री अपनी विद्वता और समझ से यहां के शासन-प्रशासन, ज्ञान, समाज के बारे में लिखते थे और अन्य लोगों को अवगत कराते थे। आइये जाने मध्यकालीन भारत के उन विदेशी यात्रियों के बारे में।
प्राचीन भारत में बौद्ध धर्म के प्रचार- प्रसार ने देश के अन्दर तथा देश के बाहर दोनों स्तरों पर लोगों को लुभाया। बौद्ध धर्म का शांतिप्रिय दुनिया के विचार ने लोगों को भारत को आकर बौद्ध धर्म को समझने को प्रेरित किया। आपने प्राचीन समय में सिल्क रूट के बारे में सुना तो होगा ही इसके सहारे ही मसाले आदि का व्यापार होता था। इससे देश-विदेश के यात्रियों को भारत को जानने और समझने का अच्छा मौका मिला। दूसरे देशों के साथ राजकीय मेलजोल ने भी प्रतिनिधियों के तौर पर भेजे गए विद्वानों के आईने से भारत को देखा, समझा और ब्यान किया।
भारत आने वाले विदेशी यात्रियों तथा प्रतिनिधियों के बारे में-
मेगस्थनीज– मेगस्थनीज का संबंध प्राचीन यूनान से था। यूनान के शासक सेल्युक्स ने चंद्रगुप्त मौर्य के दरबार में इसे दूत बनाकर भेजा था। उस समय मगध साम्राज्य में मौर्य वंश का शासन था। मेगास्थनीज पाटलिपुत्र में 302 ईपू. से 298 ई.पू. तक रहा और इंडिका नाम की बहुप्रख्यात पुस्तक लिखी। इसमे तत्कालिक भारतीय परिदृश्य के बारे में जानकारी मिलती है।
डायमेकस– मौर्य सम्राज्य के ही वंश के राजा बिंदुसार के दरबार में सीरिया के राजा एन्टिओकस प्रथम ने इसे दरबार में भेजा। डायमेकस के बारे में जानकारी स्ट्रेबो के लेख से प्राप्त होती है। इसके विवरण से ही हमें यह जानने को मिलता है कि चन्द्रगुप्त मौर्य के पुत्र बिंदुसार ने यूनान के राजा को मीठी शराब, अंजीर और यूनानी दार्शनिक भेजने को कहा था।
डोयोनिसियस– प्लिनी के ही विवरण से हमें यह पता चलता है कि सम्राट बिन्दुसार के दरबार में एक और विदेशी राजदूत डायोनिसिस आया था। जिसे मिस्त्र के राजा टॉलेमी फिलाडेल्फस ने भेजा था। कहते हैं जब डायोनिसिस मिस्त्र से चला था तो भारत पर बिन्दुसार शासन करता था लेकिन जब वह पहुंचा तो यहां पर शासन अशोक ने संभाल रखा था।
फाह्यान– फाह्यान एक चीनी यात्री था जो चन्द्रगुप्त द्वितीय के शासन के समय भारत आया था। भारतीय बौद्ध ग्रंथों और संस्कृत के अध्ययन के उद्देश्य से वह यहां आया था। फाह्यान क लेख से ही हमें उस समय बौद्ध ज्ञान और भारत के समाज के बारे में जानने समझने को मिलता है। फाह्यान ने ही नालंदा में बुद्ध के शिष्य ‘सारिपुत्र’ की अस्थियों पर निर्मित स्तूप के होने की बात कही। उसने नालंदा सहित राजगृह, बौद्ध गया, सारनाथ आदि जगहों की भी यात्रा की थी।
ह्वेन त्सांग– सम्राट हर्षवर्धन के शासनकाल में आये बौद्ध चीनी यात्री ह्वेन त्सांग ने सम्पूर्ण भारत का भ्रमण किया। चौदह वर्षो (629-43 ईस्वी) तक भारत में रहने के दौरान उसने भारत से जुड़े विभिन्न पहलुओं को ‘सी यू की’ पुस्तक में दर्ज किया। वह कुछ समय के लिए सम्राट हर्षवर्धन के दरबार, कन्नौज में भी रहा। ह्वेन त्सांग ने अपनी किताब में भारत से संबंधित जिन बातों का जिक्र किया है वो बहुत तथ्यात्मक मानी जाती है।
इत्सिंग– इत्सिंग सुमात्रा होते हुए समुद्र के रास्ते भारत आया था। इसने नालंदा और विक्रमशिला विश्विधालय की यात्रा की। इत्सिंग ने 691 ईं में अपनी पुस्तक ‘भारत तथा मलय द्वीप पुंज’ ने भी तत्कालीन बौद्धधर्म के बारे में लिखा है। इसने अपनी पुस्तक में बौद्ध धर्म से जुड़ी पहलुओं की तो चर्चा तो की लेकिन भारत के राजनीतिक और सामाजिक इतिहास के बारे कोई विवरण नहीं दिया।
अलबरूनी– “तहकीक ए हिन्द” को लिखने वाले लेखक, 11 वी शताब्दी में महमूद गजनवी के दरबार में रहता था। 1017 से 1030 तक वह भारत में रहा। उसके इस पुस्तक को “उल हिन्द” भी कहते हैं। अलबरूनी ने भारत में रहने के दौरान यहां के समाज को समझाने का प्रयास किया और एक विस्तृत विवरण भी प्रस्तुत किया है। उसके अनुसार भारतीय समाज 16 जातियों में बंटा था।
मार्को पोलो– यह एक इतालवी यात्री था। विश्व भ्रमण पर निकलने पर यह 1292 में दक्षिण भारत के कयाल बंदरगाह पर उतरा। दि ट्रेवल्स उसकी मशहूर यात्रा वृत्तांत है। उसने ही दक्षिण भारत के वैभव के बारे में बताया है। उसने भारत के आर्थिक इतिहास पर भी पुस्तक लिखी है।
भारत शुरुआत से ही विदेशी यात्रियों को लुभाता रहा है। जहाँ एक तरफ बौद्ध धर्म को समझने के लिए लोग आते रहे तो वहीँ दूसरी तरफ भारतीय संस्कृति और सामाजिक व्यवस्था की जड़ो की खंगालने लोग आये। भारत यात्रा करने वाले विदेशी लोगों का मकसद इस सम्बन्ध में चाहे कुछ भी हो। लेकिन उनके यात्रा वृतांतों, लेखों और विवरणों से उस दौर की सामाजिक, आर्थिक, राजनीतिक और सांस्कृतिक महत्व को समझने में मदद मिलती है।
