सत्य सनातन वैदिक संस्कृति में यज्ञ को सृष्टि के सृजन व संचालन में अति महत्वपूर्ण बताया गया है.

जब वैज्ञानिकों ने इसपर गौर किया तो खुद वे भी भौचक्का रह गए. समय-समय पर विज्ञान ने वेदों की बातें नहीं मनी और उसपर खोज की है, हर खोज में कुछ नया और अच्छा मिला जो ये बताता है की हमारे पूर्वज और वेद आज के नए दौर से भी कई ज्यादा आगे थे.

- लखनऊ के नेशनल बोटैनिकल रिसर्च इंस्टिट्यूट के द्वारा किए गए परिक्षण में सामने आया की हवन में इस्तेमाल होनेवाली सामग्री से हवा में मौजूद बीमारी फ़ैलाने वाले कीटाणु मर जाते हैं.
- ‘डॉ एम त्रिल्ट’ ने हवन में किशमिश डालने पर खोज की तो उन्होंने पाया की ये हवा में मौजूद टाइफाइड फ़ैलाने वाले कीटाणु को 30 मिनट में मार डालती है.
- पुणे यूनिवर्सिटी में रिसर्च कर रहे अमेरिका के मनोविज्ञानी ‘बैरी राथ्नेर’ ने पाया की हवन पर्यावरण के लिए बहुत लाभदायक है और साथ ही इंसान के दिमाग पर अच्छा प्रभाव डालती है.

सामग्री, घी, पानी, कपूर, और सुखी धुप ये सामान हवन के लिए ज़रूरी होते है.
जब हम हवन की बात करते हैं तो हमे ये पता होना चाहिए की हवन में आम की लकड़ी का प्रयोग इसलिए किया जाता है क्योंकि वो फोरमिक एल्डिहाइड नाम की गैस बनाता है जो हवा में मौजूद हानिकारक बैक्टीरिया को मार कर हवा को सांस लेने लायक बना देता है.
गुड भी आग में जल कर फोरमिक एल्डिहाइड गैस बनाता है. जो मंत्र हवन के वक़्त बोले जाते हैं वो एक सकारात्मक कंपन पैदा करते हैं जो सकारात्मक सोच रखने में मदद करती है. उसी तरह जब हवा हवन के पवित्र आग से टकराती है तो वो शुद्ध और हल्की हो जाती है. हल्की होने के बाद ये अशुद्ध हवा को हटाकर उसकी जगह ले लेती है.
