असल में, अमेरिका में बोली जाने वाली दक्षिण एशियाई भाषाओं में अब भी हिंदी पहले पायदान पर आती है। अमेरिका स्थित सेंटर फॉर इमिग्रेशन के एक अध्ययन में वर्ल्ड इकानॉमिक फोरम के अनुसार यह बात सामने आई है। इस अध्ययन में अमेरिका में बोली जाने वाली भाषाओं के स्तर का अकलन करने के लिए जनगणना डाटा का विश्लेषण किया गया है। इसके मुताबिक अमेरिका में तेजी से बढ़ रही शीर्ष 10 भाषाओं में सात दक्षिण एशियाई भाषाएं हैं। सेंटर फॉर इमिग्रेशन के मुताबिक 2010 से 2017 के बीच स्पैनिश के 40 लाख से अधिक नए वक्ताओं के अलावा चीनी, अरबी और हिंदी के वक्ता बड़ी संख्या में थे। इनमें दक्षिण एशियाई भाषाओं में हिंदी आठ लाख दस हजार लोगों के साथ पहले नंबर पर बोली जाने वाली दक्षिण एशियाई भाषा है जबकि इसके बाद उर्दू, गुजराती और फिर तेलुगु का नंबर लगता है।
जब हम भारतीय परिप्रेक्ष्य में बात करें, तो 2011 की जनगणना के भाषा संबंधी आंकड़े बताते हैं कि हिंदी भारत की सबसे तेजी से बढ़ने वाली भाषा है। 2001 से 2011 के बीच के दस सालों में हिंदी बोलने वाले लोगों संख्या में करीब 10 करोड़ की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई। हिंदी की वृद्धि दर 25.19 फीसदी रही। इन आंकड़ों में कहा गया कि भारत में सबसे ज्यादा करीब 52 करोड़ लोग हिंदी बोलते हैं। इसके बाद 9.7 करोड़ लोग बंगाली और दो लाख साठ हजार लोगों ने अंग्रेजी को अपनी मातृभाषा बताया है।
असल में, हिंदी भाषा बोलने वालों लोगों की संख्या में वृद्धि की एक वजह यह है कि गैर हिंदी भाषियों में भी हिंदी की स्वीकार्यता बढ़ रही है। साथ ही हिंदी भाषी भी इन राज्यों में रहकर वहां की स्थानीय भाषा सीख रहे हैं। उत्तर भारत में रहने वाले दक्षिण भारतीय भी तमिल,कन्नड़ और मलयालम के साथ हिंदी भी जानते हैं।
