NILGIRI HILLS: उत्तर में अन्नामलाई और दक्षिण में पालनी से घिरी है यह पहाड़ी। यह अकेले नहीं बल्कि 24 अन्य पहाड़ियों के समूह के मेल से बनती और सुन्दरता बिखेरती है। मशहूर पर्यटन स्थल ऊटी, कुन्नूर और काटगिरी इसी का हिस्सा है। अरे चलिए, आपको ज्यादा परेशान ना करते हुए बता ही दें कि हम दक्षिण भारत की एक मनोरम स्थल की बात कर रहे हैं, जिसे आप और हम नीलगिरी के नाम से जानते हैं।
दोस्तों, आपको तो पता ही होगा कि यह पहाड़ी पश्चिमी घाट का हिस्सा है। 130 किलोमीटर की चौड़ाई में फैली इस प्रकृति के सबसे खूबसूरत नजारे के बारे में आपने कभी ना कभी तो सुना या पढ़ा ही होगा। नीलगिरी की पहाड़ियां लगभग 2479 वर्ग किलोमीटर में फैली हैं। यहां पर स्थित मुकुर्थी नेशनल पार्क का कुछ हिस्सा युनेस्को विश्व धरोहर सूची में शामिल किया गया है। इसके सबसे ऊंची चोटी में नाम दर्ज है डोडाबेटा का, जो कि 8,652 फुट की ऊंचाई के साथ अपने नाम को गौरव प्रदान करता है। लेकिन क्या आपको पता है कि इसकी सबसे छोटी पहाड़ी हुलीकल दुर्ग है। कन्नड़ में इसे टाइगर रॉक फोर्ट कहते हैं और संस्कृत में बकासुर पर्वत
कहते हैं किसी भी पहाड़ की पहचान बिना झरने के अधूरी है। तो आइए आपको इसके उत्तर में स्थित इस नायाब जगह के बारे में बताऊं। कोलाकंबई पहाड़ी के नाम पर ही इससे निकले झरने का नाम रखा गया है, जिसे की कोलाकंबई झरना कहते हैँ। इसकी ऊंचाई 400 फुट के करबी है। इसके बाद नंबर आता है कैथरीन फॉल का। आपको जानकर हैरानी होगी कि नीलगिरी की इन घाटियों में करीब 3000 के आसपास अलग-अलग किस्म के फूल उगते हैं।
नीलगिरी के नाम के पीछे का रहस्य
भारत के पश्चिमी घाट की पहचान नीलगिरी हिल्स, जो कि अधिकांश तौर पर तमिलनाडू में पड़ता है। बताया जाता है कि यहां से देखने पर दुनिया नीली नजर आती है। इसके पीछे की दो वजहें हैं। पहली, यहां पर कुछ ऐसे हर्ब्स पाए जाते हैं जिसकी खुशबू आपको मंत्रमुग्ध कर देगी। दूसरी, नीलगिरी की पहाड़ियों में एक बेहद ही उम्दा और मनलुभावन फूल खिलता है। माना जाता है कि इसे देखना अपने में किसी स्वप्न देखने के बराबर है। “नीलकुरिंजी” नाम का यह फूल 12 सालों में एक बार ही खिलता है। जिस कारण पूरा का पूरा पहाड़ नीला दिखने लगता है। शायद यही वजह है कि इसका नाम नीलगिरी हिल्स पड़ा है। क्या आपको पता है कि 12 सालों में खिले नीलकुरिंजी फूल को देखने, देश-विदेश से लोग आते हैं। यह टूरिस्टों को काफी आकर्षित करता है।
