आप कट्टर से कट्टर राष्ट्रद्रोही को राष्ट्रीय शहीद स्मारक यानी जिधर शहीद-ए-आजम भगत सिंह और उनके दो साथियों राजगुरु और सुखदेव को फांसी दी गई थी, पर ले आइये. यकीन मानिए कि इधर का सारा मंजर और फिजाओं में राष्ट्र भक्ति और प्रेम जिस तरह से घुला है, उसके असर के चलते राष्ट्रद्रोही भी राष्ट्रभक्त बन जाएगा. वाघा सीमा की तरह इधर लगने वाली सीमा पर भी होती रीट्रीट सेरेमनी. पर इधर का माहौल शांत रहता है.
हुसैनीवाला पंजाब के फ़िरोज़पुर ज़िले का एक गाँव है. यह गाँव पाकिस्तान की सीमा के निकट सतलुज नदी के किनारे स्थित है. इसके सामने नदी के दूसरे किनारे पर पाकिस्तान का गेन्दा सिंह वाला नामक गाँव है. इसी गाँव में 23 मार्च, 1931 को शहीद भगतसिंह, राजगुरु और सुखदेव का अन्तिम संस्कार किया गया था. यहीं पर उनके साथी बटुकेश्वर दत्त का भी 1965 में अन्तिम संस्कार किया गया. इन शहीदों की स्मृति में यहाँ ‘राष्ट्रीय शहीद स्मारक’ बनाया गया है. भगतसिंह की माँ विद्यावती का अन्तिम संस्कार भी यहीं किया गया था.
यहाँ शहीदों की याद में एक स्मारक बनाने में भारत सरकार को आधी सदी से भी ज़्यादा यानी 54 साल लग गए. यूं तो सबसे पहले सन 1968 में तत्कालीन सरकार ने इसे राष्ट्रीय शहीद स्मारक घोषित किया और 1973 में भी देश के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति और पंजाब के तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री ज्ञानी जैल सिंह ने इसे विकसित करने की घोषणा की, लेकिन यह सब कवायद केवल रस्म अदायगी तक सीमित रह गई. 23 मार्च, 1985 को तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गांधी ने हुसैनीवाला का दौरा किया. यहां तीनों शहीदों की मूर्तियां लगाई गईं और हर साल मेले का आयोजन किया जाने लगा.
बता दें कि भारत ने 17 जनवरी, 1961 को पाकिस्तान को 12 गांवों के बदले में भारत ने इस जगह को वापस लिया. सन 1965 की जंग के समय भी हुसैनीवाला के करीब भारत-पाकिस्तान की फौजों के बीच भीषण लड़ाई हुई थी. हुसैनीवाला गांव का नाम मुस्लिम संत पीर बाबा हुसैनीवाला के नाम पर रखा गया था. 1971 की जंग में पाकिस्तानी सेना इन तीनों शहीदों की मूर्तियों को ले गई थी. देश के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति एवं पंजाब के तत्कालीन सीएम ज्ञानी जैल सिंह ने 1973 में इस स्मारक को फिर से विकसित करवाया.
बता दें कि 8 अप्रैल, 1929 को लाहौर की सेंट्रल असेंबली में बम फेंकने के जुर्म में क्रांतिकारी भगतसिंह, राजगुरु और सुखदेव को फांसी की सजा सुनाई गई थी. लाहौर में 23 मार्च, 1931 को शाम 7 बजकर 15 मिनट पर इन तीनों को फांसी दे दी गयी. आम जनता बगावत न कर दे, इसलिए इन तीनों क्रांतिकारियों को एक दिन पहले ही फांसी पर चढ़ा दिया गया. अंग्रेज़ इन क्रांतिकारियों से इतने डरे हुए थे कि उनके शव भी उनके परिजनों को नहीं सौंपे गए बल्कि जेल अधिकारियों ने जेल की पिछली दीवार तोड़कर इन शवों को लाहौर से लगभग चालीस कि.मी. दूर हुसैनीवाला ले जाकर सतलुज नदी में बहा दिया. लेकिन सतलुज का दरिया बहुत देर तक यह राज अपने सीने में दफन नहीं रख सका. सुबह होते-होते हजारों लोगों ने उस स्थान को खोज निकाला, जहां पर शहीदों को उफनती लहरों के सुपुर्द किया गया था. तब से यह स्थान युवाओं और देशभक्तों के लिए तीर्थ स्थान बन गया.
