हरड़ या हरितकी त्रिफला का प्रमुख तत्व है जिसका इस्तेमाल जिगर बढ़ने, ल्यूकोरिया और पेट की तकलीफों को दूर करने में किया जाता है. शास्त्रों में कहा गया है :
यस्य माता गृहेनास्ति तस्य माता हरीतकी।
कदाचित्कुप्यते माता न चोदरस्था हरीतकी।।
जिसकी माता नहीं है उसकी माता हरड़ है. माता कभी क्रुद्ध भी हो सकती है किन्तु पेट में गई हुई हरड़ कभी कुपित नहीं होती.
त्रिफला शब्द का शाब्दिक अर्थ है ‘तीन फल’. लेकिन आयुर्वेद का त्रिफला 3 ऐसे फलों का मिलन है जो तीनों ही अमृतीय गुणों से भरपूर है. आंवला, बहेड़ा और हरड़. आयुर्वेद में इन्हें अमलकी, विभीतक और हरितकी कहा गया है. त्रिफला में इन तीनों को बीज निकाल कर समान मात्रा में चूर्ण बनाकर कर लिया जाता है. क्या आपने कभी त्रिफला प्रयोग किया है? सिर्फ सेहत के ही नहीं बल्कि ब्यूटी के फायदे भी देता है यह तीन फलों से तैयार किया गया चूर्ण. एक अध्ययन से पता चला है कि त्रिफला का सेवन रेडियोधर्मिता से भी बचाव करता है. प्रयोगों में देखा गया है कि त्रिफला की खुराकों से गामा किरणों के रेडिएशन के प्रभाव से होने वाली अस्वस्थता के लक्षण भी नहीं पाए जाते हैं. इसीलिए त्रिफला चूर्ण आयुर्वेद का अनमोल उपहार कहा जाता है.
हरीतकी (हरड़) जिसका अंग्रेजी नाम चेबुलिक म्यरॉबालन (Chebulic Myrobalan) है. यह भारत में सामान्यत रूप से पाया जाने वाला विशेष औषधीय पौधा है, जिसे हम और आप हर्रा, हरड़, हर्रे आदि नामों से भी जानते हैं. आयुर्वेद में हरीतकी के फायदे कई स्वामस्य्ा लाभों के लिए उपयोग किये जाते हैं इस कारण हरीतिकी को भारत में जड़ी बूटीयों की मां कहा जाता है.
हरीतकी का वैज्ञानिक नाम टर्मिनलिया चेबुला (Terminalia chebula) है जिसे तिब्बत में दवाओं का राजा कहा जाता है. यह वास्त्व में हरीतिकी के पेड़ से प्राप्त सूखे फल है जिन्हें हरड़ कहा जाता है. हरड़ के फायदे पाचन तंत्र के लिए विशेष रूप से जाने जाते हैं. यह प्राकृतिक रूप से पेट की सफाई के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है जो कि कब्जष, पाचन विकार, अनियमित बुखार, पेट फूलना, अल्स र, उल्टीए, पेट की गैस और बवासीर जैसी समस्या ओं को दूर करने में मदद करता है. यह फल अन्यप गैस्ट्रो इंस्टा इनल बीमारियों जैसे ट्यूमर, एसाइट्स (Ascites), यकृत या प्लीपहा का विस्ता्र, कृमि (worms), कोलाइटिस और खाद्य विषाक्तोता के विस्तार में भी मदद करता हैं.
इस पेड़ की औसत ऊंचाई लगभग 20-30 मीटर ऊंचा होता है. इसकी पत्तियां 7.5 से 20 सेमी. लंबी और सरप टिप के साथ 5 से 10 सेमी. चौड़ी होती हैं. इसके फल 2.5 से 3 सेमी. लंबे और पांच बाहरी किनारे के साथ होते हैं. इसके कच्चे फलों का रंग हरा और पकने के बाद पीले रंग के होते हैं. सूखे फल भूरे पीले या काले भूरे होते हैं. जनवरी से अप्रैल के बीच में इस पेड़ से पके हुए फलों को प्राप्त किया जा सकता है. औषधीय उपयोग के लिए इस पौधे के लगभग सभी भागों का उपयोग किया जाता है, जिनमें इस पेड़ के फल, जड़ और पेड़ की छाल प्रमुख रूप से उपयागी होते हैं.
उच्च रक्तं ग्लू कोज के स्तऔर और खराब खान-पान के कारण शरीर में इंसुलिन संवेदनशीलता में कमी होती है, जो मधुमेह प्रकार -2 और इसके चयापचय सिंड्रोम (metabolic syndrome) का मुख्यु कारण होता है. हरीतकी में उपस्थित यौगिक रक्तक शर्करा के स्तमर को कम करने और इंसुलिन को बढ़ाने में मदद मिलती है.
