जी हां हम बात कर रहे हैं देश के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री गुलजारी लाल नंदा जी की। नेहरू जी के बाद भारत के दूसरे प्रधानमंत्री के तौर पर और फिर लाल बहादुर शास्त्री जी की मृत्यु के बाद फिर से देश के प्रधानमंत्री बने थे। हालांकि दोनों बार गुलजारी लाल नंदा जी का कार्यकाल बहुत ही कम दिनों का रहा था। वैसे तो गुलजारी लाल नंदा जी का जन्म सियालकोट जो कि अब पाकिस्तान के पंजाब में है, में हुआ था। इनके पिता का नाम बुलाकीराम नंदा तथा माता का नाम ईश्वरी देवी नंदा जी था।
आज के राजनेताओं की ईमानदारी को लेकर बरबस ही सवाल खड़े हो रहे हों, लेकिन पहले के नेताओं के साथ एसी बात नहीं थी। आज आपको पंचायत के प्रधान से लेकर एमपी-एमएलए तथा मंत्री तक मिल जाएंगे, जिनकी संपत्ति साल दर साल चक्रवृद्धि ब्याज से भी ज्यादा तेजी से बढ़ती जाती है। उनकी चुनाव जीतने से पहले और उसके बाद की घोषित आय में वृद्धि किसी से नहीं छिपी। लेकिन इसी देश की राजनीति ने देश में ऐसे भी राजनेता दिए हैं जिनके सिर पर एक अदद छत तक नहीं। ना खुद ना ही परिवार के किसी व्यक्ति को अपने रसूख का लाभ लेने दिया। हालांकि उनमें से ज्यादा अब इस दुनिया में रहे ही नहीं। इन्हीं उदाहरणों में से एक थे गुलजारीलाल नंदा। गुलजारी लाल नंदा की जो कहानी आपको सुनाने जा रहा हूं उससे आपका मन शायद ज्यादा ही भावुक हो जाए।
खांटी गांधीवादी नेता गुलजारीलाल नंदा भारत के प्रधानमंत्री के साथ साथ विदेश मंत्री भी रहे। आजादी की लड़ाई में गांधी के समर्थकों में शुमार गुलजारीलाल जी को अपना अंतिम जीवन किराये के मकान में गुजारना पड़ा। और यह पता कैसे चला इसके पीछे भी बहुत ही रोचक कहानी है। आइये आपको सुनाता हूं।
जब गुलजारीलाल नंदा 94 साल के थे तो वे एक गुमनामी का जीवन जी रहे थे। इस वृद्धावस्था में उनके पास इतने भी पैसे नहीं थे कि वह अपने मकान मालिक को किराये के पैसे दे सके। किराया नहीं देने पर एक बार मकान मालिक ने उनसे घर से बाहर निकल जाने को कहा। गुलजारी लाल नंदा जो कि कभी भारत के प्रधानमंत्री रहे थे। अपने गुमनामी की जिंदगी में अपने मकान मालिक से कुछ वक्त मांगा और मिन्नतें की । लेकिन मकान मालिक ने किराया ना देने के कारण उनको मकान से निकाल दिया और उनका पुराना बिस्तर, खाने कुछ बर्तन और प्लास्टिक की बाल्टी-मग उठा कर सड़क पर फेंक दिया था। इसके अलावा उनके पास कोई सामान था भी कहां। बगल से उसी वक्त एक पत्रकार महोदय गुजर रहे थे । उन्हें लगा कि कल के लिए एक खबर मिल गई कि एक गरीब व्यक्ति को पैसे ना देने के कारण मकान मालिक ने घर से बाहर निकाल दिया। उस पर उन्होंने गुलजारीलाल नंदा जी की एक तस्वीर ली अपनी एक रिपोर्ट लिख कर अपने दफ्तर में दे दिया। जब इसे प्रेस के मालिक तथा संपादक मंडली ने देखा तो उस पत्रकार महोदय से पूछा कि तुम ने जो रिपोर्ट दी है उस व्यक्ति को जानते हो । उसपर पत्रकार महोदय ने कहा कि नहीं वह कोई गरीब व्यक्ति है बस इतना जानता हूं। फोटो देखते ही गुलजारीलाल नंदा को संपादक मंडली तो पहचान ही चुके थे। बस क्या था सुबह के समाचार पत्र की जोरदार हेडलाइन बन गई यह खबर। देश का पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री का दयनीय जीवन।
खबर तो आग की तरह फैल गई। खबर को पढ़ते ही देश के तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री ने तुरंत अधिकारियों की टीमें भेंजी। अधिकारियों के बड़े बड़े काफिले को आता देख मकान मालिक सोच में पड़ गया कि वे लोग वहां क्यों आ गए। तब जाकर उसे पता चला कि जिस व्यक्ति को उसने मकान से बाहर फेंका था वह गुलजारीलाल नंदा है। अधिकारियों ने गुलजारीलालनंदा से सरकारी आवास और सुविधाएं लेने का अनुरोध किया। लेकिन गुलजारीलाल नंदा ने यह कहते हुए मना कर दिया कि वह इस बुढ़ापे में इन सब सुविधाओं का करेंगे क्या। गुलजारीलाल नंदा को जब स्वंत्रता सेनानी वित्त पोषण राशि के लिए पहले पूछा गया था तो उन्होंने यह कहते हुए मना कर दिया था कि वह देश की स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में सहायता राशि के लिए नहीं लड़े। ऐसे थे हमारे देश के पहले के राजनेता। जिन्होंने पूरे जीवन अपने सिद्धांतों से समझौता नहीं किया। यह है भारत की मूल सभ्यता और संस्कृति का ईमानदार उदाहरण।
