जालियावाला बाग: अभी बांकी है स्वंतंत्रता आन्दोलन के निशान

भारत के स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन की बात हो और जालियावाला बाग का जिक्र न हो, यह संभव नहीं है. अमृतसर में प्रसिद्ध स्वर्ण मंदिर के बगल में यह क्षेत्र देश-विदेश के लोगों के लिए पर्यटन स्थल बन चुका है. लोग यहां आते हैं और एक-एक चीज को बड़े गौर से देखते हैं. जानकारी हासिल करते हैं.
बता दें कि बात 13 अप्रैल 1919 की है जब एक मैदान में हो रहे जनसभा में एकत्रित निहत्थी भीड़ पर, बगैर किसी चेतावनी के, जनरल डायर के आदेश पर ब्रिटिश सैनिकों ने अंधा-धुंध गोली चला दी थी. यह जनसभा जलियाँवाला बाग में हो रही थी, इसलिए इसे जलियाँवाला बाग हत्याकांड भी बोला जाता है. इस जनसभा की मुखबिरी हंसराज नामक भारतीय ने किया था और उसके सहयोग से इस हत्याकांड की साज़िश रची गयी थी.
13 अप्रैल को यहाँ एकत्रित यह भीड़ दो राष्ट्रीय नेताओं –सत्यपाल और डॉ.सैफुद्दीन किचलू की गिरफ्तारी का विरोध कर रही थी. अचानक ब्रिटिश सैन्य अधिकारी जनरल डायर ने अपनी सेना को निहत्थी भीड़ पर, तितर-बितर होने का मौका दिए बगैर, गोली चलाने के आदेश दे दिए और 10 मिनट तक या तब तक गोलियां चलती रहीं जब तक वे ख़त्म नहीं हो गयीं. इन 10 मिनटों, (कांग्रेस की गणना के अनुसार) एक हजार लोग मारे गए और लगभग दो हजार लोग घायल हुए. गोलियों के निशान अभी भी जलियांवाला बाग़ में देखे जा सकते है, जिसे कि अब राष्ट्रीय स्मारक घोषित कर दिया गया है. यह नरसंहार पूर्व-नियोजित था और जनरल डायर ने गर्व के साथ घोषित किया कि उसने ऐसा सबक सिखाने के लिए किया था और अगर वे लोग सभा जारी रखते तो उन सबको वह मार डालता. उसे अपने किये पर कोई शर्मिंदगी नहीं थी. जब वह इंग्लैंड गया तो कुछ अंग्रेजों ने उसका स्वागत करने के लिए चंदा इकट्ठा किया. जबकि कुछ अन्य डायर के इस जघन्य कृत्य से आश्चर्यचकित थे और उन्होंने जांच की मांग की. एक ब्रिटिश अख़बार ने इसे आधुनिक इतिहास का सबसे ज्यादा खून-खराबे वाला नरसंहार कहा.
जनरल डायर के आदेश पर उनके सैनिकों ने भीड़ पर करीब 10 मिनट तक बिना रुके गोलियां बरसाई थीं. इन गोलियों का निशाना वे सभी खुले दरवाजे थे जिनके जरिए लोग बचकर बाहर जाने की कोशिशें कर रहे थे. जब सेना के पास गोलियां खत्म हो गईं और आपूर्ति भी खत्मस हो गई तब जाकर सीजफायर घोषित किया गया. इस घटना में करीब 1,650 राउंड फायरिंग हुई थी. जो विरोध प्रदर्शन जलियांवाला बाग में जारी था उसमें हिंदु, सिख और मुसलमान तीनों ही धर्मों के लोग शामिल थे. जब जनरल डायल के आदेश पर गोलियां बरसाई जा रही थी उस समय कई लोग अपनी जान बचाने के लिए बाग में स्थित कुंए में कूद पड़े. इस कुंए को आज शहीदी कुएं के नाम से जानते हैं और यह आज भी बाग में मौजूद है.
बता दें कि बैसाखी वैसे तो पूरे भारत का एक प्रमुख त्योहार है परंतु विशेषकर पंजाब और हरियाणा के किसान सर्दियों की रबी की फसल काट लेने के बाद नए साल की खुशियाँ मनाते हैं. इसी दिन, 13 अप्रैल 1699 को दसवें और अंतिम गुरु गोविंद सिंह ने खालसा पंथ की स्थापना की थी. इसीलिए बैसाखी पंजाब और आस-पास के प्रदेशों का सबसे बड़ा त्योहार है और सिख इसे सामूहिक जन्मदिवस के रूप में मनाते हैं. अमृतसर में उस दिन एक मेला सैकड़ों साल से लगता चला आ रहा था जिसमें उस दिन भी हज़ारों लोग दूर-दूर से आए थे.
