भारतीय संस्कृति विश्व की सर्वश्रेष्ठ संस्कृति है। आज का भारतवर्ष जो कभी आर्यावर्त के नाम से जाना जाता था, दुनिया का प्राचीनतम राष्ट्र है। भारतवर्ष दुनिया को ज्ञान, विज्ञान और संस्कार प्रदान करने वाला राष्ट्र रहा है। जब दुनिया अज्ञानता के अन्धकार में जी रही थी तब ज्ञान का सूर्य भारतवर्ष से निकलकर समूची दुनिया पर ज्ञान वर्षा कर रहा था। 2500 सालों के ज्ञात इतिहास में यह मिलता है कि, 24 बार भारतवर्ष को खंडित किया जा चुका है।
भारत के प्राचीन समय के अविभाजित स्वरूप को ‘अखंड भारत’ कहा जाता है। प्राचीन काल में भारत में वर्तमान के देश अफगानिस्तान, पाकिस्तान, तिब्बत, भूटान, म्यांमार, बांग्लादेश, श्रीलंका, मलेशिया, फिलिपिंस, थाइलैंड, वियतनाम, कंबोडिया, इंडोनेशिया, लाओस, मालदीव, सिंगापुर, ब्रुनेई, नेपाल आदि शामिल थे।
आज जो हिन्दुस्तान है वह भारतवर्ष का एक टुकड़ा मात्र है। जिसे आर्यावर्त कहते हैं वह भी भारतवर्ष का एक हिस्साभर है और जिसे भारतवर्ष कहते हैं वह तो जम्बू द्वीप का एक हिस्सा मात्र है। जम्बू द्वीप में पहले देव-असुर और फिर बहुत बाद में कुरुवंश और पुरुवंश की लड़ाई और विचारधाराओं के टकराव के चलते यह जम्बू द्वीप कई भागों में बंटता चला गया।
भारत को कई आक्रांताओं ने लुटा। भारत पर शकों, मुगलों, हूणों, यूनानियों, फ्रांसीसियों और अंग्रेजों ने कई हमले किए। लेकिन इतिहास में कहीं भी ऐसा नहीं मिलता कि इन्हीं आक्रांताओं ने अफगानिस्तान, म्यांमार, श्रीलंका, नेपाल, तिब्बत, भूटान, मलेशिया जैसे देशों पर भी हमला किया हो क्योंकि तब ये समस्त भू-भाग आर्यावर्त के अंतर्गत ही आते थे।
बौद्धकाल में विचारधाराओं की लड़ाई अपने चरम पर चली गई। ऐसे में चाणक्य की बुद्धि से चंद्रगुप्त मौर्य ने एक बार फिर भारतवर्ष को फिर से एकजुट कर एकछत्र के नीचे ला खड़ा किया। बाद में सम्राट अशोक तक राज्य अच्छे से चला। अशोक के बाद भारत का पतन होना फिर शुरू हुआ।
नए धर्म और संस्कृति के अस्तित्व में आने के बाद भारत पर पुन: आक्रमण का दौर शुरू हुआ और फिर कब उसके हाथ से सिंगापुर, मलेशिया, ईरान, अफगानिस्तान छूट गए पता ही नहीं चला और उसके बाद मध्यकाल में संपूर्ण क्षेत्र में हिन्दुओं का धर्मांतरण किया जाने लगा और अंतत: बच गया हिन्दुस्तान। धर्मांतरित हिन्दुओं ने ही भारतवर्ष को आपस में बांट लिया।
1947 में अंग्रेज भारत छोड़ने के पहले भारत का एक और बंटवारा पाकिस्तान के रूप में करके गए। 14 अगस्त 1947 को अंग्रेजों ने भारत को विभाजित करते हुए पूर्वी पाकिस्तान एवं पश्चिमी पाकिस्तान के रूप में बांट दिया। मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना 1940 से ही धर्म के आधार पर एक अलग देश की मांग कर रहे थे जो बाद में पाकिस्तान बना। 1971 में भारत के ही सहयोग से पाकिस्तान फिर से बांटा गया और बांग्लादेश का निर्माण हुआ।
लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण कहते हैं, ‘भारत, पाकिस्तान और बांग्लादेश इन तीनों देशों में रहने वाले लोग वस्तुतः एक ही राष्ट्र भारत के वासी है। हमारी राजनीतिक इकाइयां भले ही भिन्न हो, परंतु हमारी राष्ट्रीयता एक ही रही है और वह है भारतीय।’
यदि इतिहास उठाकर देखे तो भारत को एकसूत्र में बांधने वाली एक सराहनीय घटना देखने को मिलती है, और वह घटना है – ‘562 रियासतों का भारत में विलय!’ अंग्रेजी हुकूमत द्वारा भारत छोड़ने के पश्चात देश की 562 रियासतों के अति महत्वाकांक्षी शासकों को एक अखंड भारत में पिरोने का काम बेहद मुश्किल था। यह दुर्गम कार्य सरदार पटेल ने अपने बुद्धि चातुर्य और राजनैतिक कौशल से सफलतापूर्वक संपन्न किया। देश की 562 रियासतों का बिना शस्त्र उठाए एकत्रीकरण कर चुके सरदार पटेल के सामने अब जूनागढ़, हैदराबाद और जम्मू-कश्मीर की रियासतें आजाद भारत की सबसे बड़ी चुनौती थी। उनके नहीं मानने से कई और रियासतों के विद्रोही होने की संभावना हो सकती थी। देश के पहले गृहमंत्री और उप-प्रधानमंत्री बने सरदार पटेल ने पाकिस्तान परस्त जूनागढ़ निजाम को और फिर हैदराबाद निजाम को घुटने टेकने पर विवश कर दोनों रियासतों का विलय कर लिया। सरदार पटेल द्वारा इन सब रियासतों का सफलतापूर्वक एकत्रीकरण किए जाने के कारण ही देश उन्हें ‘लौह पुरुष’ के नाम से जानता है।
अलग-अलग कालखंड में भारतवर्ष को विभिन्न देशों में बांट दिया गया। अब इन खंडों को एक-एक करके पुन: भारत में मिलाकर ही अखंड भारत का पुनर्निर्माण किया जा सकता है। इन देशों को भारत में मिलाना असंभव जैसा लगता है लेकिन असंभव है नहीं।
संघ के सरसंघचालक मोहन भागवत कहते हैं कि, ‘जब पूर्वी और पश्चिमी जर्मनी एक हो सकते हैं तो फिर अखंड भारत क्यों नहीं? भागवत ने ये भी कहते हैं कि, दुनिया के कल्याण के लिए गौरवशाली अखंड भारत की जरूरत है, छोटे किए गए भारत को फिर से एकजुट करने की जरूरत है। उन्होंने कहा था कि जब बंटवारा संभव है तो फिर अखंड भारत भी संभव है।’
