जिंदगी से रूबरू कराती मधुशाला
हरिवंश राय बच्चन की कालजयी कृतियों में से एक है मधुशाला. मधुशाला में बच्चन जी के व्यक्तित्व और जीवन दर्शन की झलक है. बच्चन हालावाद (वह कविता, जिसमें शराब और नायिका की प्रधानता हो) के प्रवर्तक माने जाते हैं. इनके काव्य में इस धारा का सर्वाधिक निखरा, प्रखर और प्रभावी स्वरुप दिखाई देता है. ऐसा सिर्फ साहित्य में ही संभव है कि लोगों को जिस लड़खड़ाते कदमों के लिए कोसा जाता है उसमें भी एकता और धार्मिक भावना खोज ली जाए. कलम का ऐसा जादू हरिवंश राय बच्चन के अलावा और कहाँ देखने को मिलता है. 1935 में प्रकाशित इस रचना का प्रभाव हर किसी पर पड़ा. बच्चन की कविताओं की खास बात थी कि वे सहजता और संवेदना की पोशाक पहने हुए थी. बच्चनजी ने जब अपनी मधुशाला से भाव और विचार की मदिरा छलकाई तो पीने वाले मदहोश हो गए.
ऐसी हाला कि जितना चखो नशा और बढ़े, बढ़ता ही जाए. निजी जिंदगी में आये उतार चढ़ाव से प्रेरणा लेकर बच्चन ने मधुशाला की रचना की. नई मधुशाला के सर्जक इसको सरल शब्दों में हाला, प्याला, मधुशाला बना कर पेश किया. पथिक बना मैं घूम रहा हूँ, सभी जगह मिलती हाला,
सभी जगह मिल जाती साकी, सभी जगह मिलता प्याला.
इनकी कवितओं में समाज की आभावग्रस्त व्यथा, परिवेश का चमकता हुआ खोखलापन, नियति और व्यवस्था के आगे व्यक्ति की असहायता और बेबसी आदि विषय हुआ करते थे. बच्चन जी का जीवन दर्शन आशा से पूर्ण था. वे जीवन के हर बूंद का आनंद उठाना चाहते थे. इनकी इस कविता में संवेदनाओं की सहज अनुभूति होती थी. हालावाद के द्वारा जीवन की सारी निरसता से मुंह मोड़ने के बजाय उसे मधुरता और आस्था के साथ सिर्फ स्वीकार ही नहीं किया, बल्कि उसका आनंदपूर्ण उपयोग करके साहित्य को मधुशाला भेंट कर दी.
मुसलमान और हिंदू हैं दो, एक मगर उनका प्याला
एक मगर मदिरालय, एक मगर उनकी हाला,
दोनों रहतें एक ना जब तक, मंदिर-मस्जिद में जाते,
मंदिर-मस्जिद बैर कराते, मेल कराती मधुशाला.
इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि बच्चन जी का नाम सिर्फ हिंदी साहित्य में ही नहीं, बल्कि भारत के सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय कवियों में शोभित हैं. इनकी लोकप्रियता मात्र पाठकों में नहीं व्यक्तिगत रूप से भी थी. बच्चन ने अवसाद के छायावादी युग में वेद्नाग्रस्त मन को वाणी दी. मधुशाला को पढ़कर हम ये कह सकते हैं कि जीवन की जटिलताओं को दूर करने का एक सार्थक प्रयास था बच्चन जी का. उनकी हर कविता पढ़ कर लगता है मानों ये हमारे दिल में भी है. मधुशाला से छलकते विचार और भाव की मार्मिक हाला का वर्णन किसी कवि ने इस तरह प्रस्तुत किया है –
बच्चनजी तुम क्या गये धरा से, मौन हमारी मधुशाला,
गाने वाला चला गया अब, बंद हुई बस मधुशाला,
