धर्म और सेहत की श्रीवृद्धि में सहायक है पीपल
पवित्र पीपल वृक्ष को अनंतकाल से ही हिंदुओं द्वारा पूजा जाता है, लेकिन पीपल वृक्ष धार्मिक मान्यता के अलावा औषधीय गुणों से भरपूर है. भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में उगने वाले पीपल वृक्ष को औषधीय गुणों का भंडार माना जाता है. इसके उपयोग से नपुंसकता, अस्थमा, गुर्दे, कब्ज, अतिसार तथा अनेक रक्त विकारों का घरेलू उपचार किया जा सकता है. अथर्ववेद के उपवेद आयुर्वेद में पीपल के औषधीय गुणों का कई असाध्य रोगों में उपयोग वर्णित है.
हमारे मनीषियों ने भारतीय संस्कृति में पीपल को देववृक्ष माना है. पद्मपुराण के अनुसार, पीपल का वृक्ष भगवान विष्णु का रुप है. इसलिए इसे धार्मिक क्षेत्र में श्रेष्ठ देव वृक्ष की पदवी मिली और इसका विधि विधान से पूजन आरंभ हुआ. हिन्दू धर्म में अनेक अवसरों पर पीपल की पूजा करने का विधान है. इसकी पूजा होती है. सुबह-शाम दीये दिखाए जाते हैं. लोग इसकी परिक्रमा करते हैं. कहा जाता है कि इसके सात्विक प्रभाव के स्पर्श से अन्तः चेतना पुलकित और प्रफुल्लित होती है. स्कन्द पुराण में कहा गया है कि अश्वत्थ (पीपल) के मूल में विष्णु, तने में केशव, शाखाओं में नारायण, पत्तों में श्रीहरि और फलों में सभी देवताओं के साथ अच्युत सदैव निवास करते हैं। शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि पीपल की सविधि पूजा-अर्चना करने से संपूर्ण देवता स्वयं ही पूजित हो जाते हैं. इसके साथ ही पीपल का वृक्ष लगाने वाले की वंश परंपरा कभी नष्ट नहीं होती.
श्रीमद्भागवत् में कहा गया है कि द्वापर युग में परमधाम जाने से पूर्व योगेश्वर श्रीकृष्ण इस दिव्य पीपल वृक्ष के नीचे बैठकर ध्यान में लीन हुए. पवित्रता की दृष्टि से यज्ञ में उपयोग की जाने वाली समिधाएं भी आम या पीपल की ही होती हैं. यज्ञ में अग्नि स्थापना के लिए ऋषिगण पीपल के काष्ठ और शमी की लकड़ी की रगड़ से अग्नि प्रज्वलित किया करते थे.
पीपल के वृक्ष को अक्षय वृक्ष भी कहा जाता है, जिसके पत्ते कभी समाप्त नहीं होते. पीपल के पत्ते इंसानी जीवन की तरह हैं. पतझड़ आता है, वह झड़ने लगते हैं, लेकिन कभी एक साथ नहीं झड़ते और फिर पेड़ पर नए पत्ते आकर पेड़ को हरा-भरा बना देते हैं. पीपल की यह खूबी जन्म-मरण के चक्र को भी दर्शाती है. पीपल के वृक्ष के नीचे बैठकर तप करने से महात्मा बुद्ध को इस सच्चाई का बोध हुआ था.
धार्मिक के साथ-साथ पीपल के पेड़ और उसके कोमल पत्तों का ऐतिहासिक और वैज्ञानिक महत्व भी है. चाणक्य के समय में पीपल के पत्ते सांप का जहर उतारने के काम आते थे. आज जिस तरह जल को पवित्र करने के लिए तुलसी के पत्तों को पानी में डाला जाता है, वैसे पीपल के पत्तों को भी जलाशय और कुंडों में इसलिए डालते थे, ताकि जल किसी भी प्रकार की गंदगी से मुक्त हो जाए.
