Kolhapuri Chappals: आज हम आपको भारतीय परिधान की खास पहचान से जुड़ी एक ऐसी चीज के बारे में बताएंगे जिसे पूरी दुनिया में किसी परिचय की जरूरत नहीं है। जी हां, हम बात कर रहे हैं भारत के मध्य पश्चिमी भाग यानी कि महाराष्ट्र की शान कोल्हापुरी चप्पल के बारे में। इसे चप्पल मात्र न समझें। यह तो अपने नाम से ही खास है। इसलिए तो 1979 में अमिताभ बच्चन की फिल्म सुहाग में आपने ये फेमस डायलॉग तो जरूर ही सुना होगा- “….ये है कोल्हापुरी चप्पल, नंबर नौ, देखने में नौ और फटके में सौ”…। फिल्म में इस चप्पल के कई सारे उपयोग भी दिखाए गए हैं, जैसे- सेठ को धमकाने से लेकर गुंडे की पिटाई तक। ऐसी खासियत है कोल्हापुरी चप्पलों की। चलिए व्यंग का दौर खत्म करते हैं और कोल्हापुरी चप्पलों से जुड़ी कुछ रोचक जानकारियां जुटाते हैं।
700 सालों से भी पुराना है इतिहास
जानकार बताते हैं कि कोल्हापुरी चप्पल का इतिहास आज का नहीं है। यह 13वीं शताब्दी से ही चलन में हैं। हां, तब इसे राजा-महाराजा पहना करते थे। भारतीय हस्तकला का एक नायाब नमूना है यह चप्पल। इसकी कला की दीवानगी ही है जो इसे एक पीढ़ी से दूसरी पीढ़ी तक आज भी पहुंचा रही है। 18वीं शताब्दी आते-आते चप्पल बनाने की इस कला ने पूरी तरह से एक बिजनेस का रूप ले लिया था। तब के समय में इसे कपाशी, पाई-तान, बक्कलनाली आदि नामों से जाना जाता था। जानकारी के लिए बात दूं कि ये नाम तब के बनाने वालों के गांवों से संबंधित थे। कानों की तरह पतली होने के कारण इसे “कनवली” भी कहा जाता है।
कैसे बनते हैं कोल्हापुरी चप्पल?
जानकार बताते हैं कि इस चप्पल को भैंस आदि के चमड़ों की मदद से बनाया जाता है। चमड़े को नरम होने के लिए इसे पानी में डूबो कर रखा जाता है और अगर इसे वाटरप्रूफ बनाना है तो इसे तेल में डूबोकर रखा जाता है। चप्पल के सोल को तैयार करने के लिए चमड़े को साइज के हिसाब से काट लिया जाता है। फिर इसमें पेस्टिंग आदि की जाती है। कोल्हापुरी चप्पल को खूबसूरत बनाने के लिए इसमें कालाकारी की जाती है। पहले के जमाने में कोल्हापुरी चप्पल अकसर भूरे रंग के शेड्स के ही हुआ करते थे। लेकिन समय और डिमांड के हिसाब से इसमें और भी रंग जुड़ते चले गए।

कोल्हापुरी चप्पलों की डिमांड इतनी है कि इसे ना सिर्फ देश में बल्कि विदेशों में खूब बाजार मिलता है। कोल्हापुर में बने इन चप्पलों की कलाकारी और उत्पाद की गुणवत्ता को एक मानक देने के लिए, साथ ही बाजार तक वास्तविक उत्पाद पुहंचाने के लिए जीआई टैग भी मिल चुका है। इसका मतलब यह है कि ये चप्पल बस उन्हीं इलाकों में बनाई जा सकेंगी जिसे इनके उत्पादन के लिए अधिकृत किया गया है।
कोल्हापुरी चप्पल इतने महंगे क्यूं होते हैं?
कोल्हापुरी चप्पलों को बनाना इतना भी आसान नहीं। यह खुद में कालाकारी का एक अद्वितीय उदाहरण है। इसमें ना केवल विशिष्ट डिज़ाइनों को उकेरा जाता है बल्कि इन्हें बनाने में जटिल और गहन प्रक्रिया से भी होकर गुजरना पड़ता है। इसे शहर के कुशल कलाकारों द्वारा तैयार किया जाता है। इन विशेष चप्पलों को बनाने के लिए उच्च गुणवत्ता वाले चमड़े की आवश्यकता होती है। कहते हैं एक जोड़ी कोल्हापुरी चप्पल को बनाने में लगभग दो हफ्तों का वक्त लग जाता है। ऐसे ही थोड़ी यह बाजारों तक पहुंच पाती हैं।
