रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार एक शहतूश शॉल को बनाने के लिए 4 से 5 चीरू की मौत होती थी| इसलिए हर साल कई चीरू की मौत सिर्फ़ शॉल बनाने के कारण होती थी, जो लुप्त होते जा रहे थे| जिस कारण से साल 1975 में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रकृति संरक्षण संघ ने शहतूश शॉल को बैन कर दिया था, लेकिन भारत के कश्मीर में लोग इस शॉल के बैन होने के बाद भी इसे बेचते थे। फिर साल 2000 में इसे पूरी तरह से भारत में भी बैन कर दिया गया। अगर इसकी कीमत की बात करें, तो यह लगभग 5000 डॉलर से 20000 हज़ार डॉलर तक बिकती है| यानी कि इसको खरीदने के लिए आपके 10 से 15 लाख रुपए खर्च हो सकते है|
