ब्रह्म सरोवर, जैसा कि नाम से पता चलता है, ब्रह्मांड के निर्माता भगवान ब्रह्मा से जुड़ा हुआ है. सौर ग्रहण के दौरान सरवर के पवित्र पानी में डुबकी लेना हजारों अश्वमेध यज्ञों के प्रदर्शन की योग्यता के बराबर माना जाता है. स्थानीय किंवदंतियों के अनुसार पहली बार कौरव्स और पांडवों के पूर्वजों राजा कुरु ने खुदाई की थी. सौर ग्रहण के दौरान मुगल सम्राट अकबर के दरबारक अपने विशाल जल निकाय अबुल-फजल को देखते हुए इस सरवर के विशाल जल निकाय को लघु सागर के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है.
स्थानीय परंपरा के मुताबिक महाभारत युद्ध में उनकी जीत के प्रतीक के रूप में सरवर के बीच में स्थित द्वीप में युधिष्ठार द्वारा एक टावर बनाया गया था. उसी द्वीप परिसर में एक प्राचीन द्रौपदी कुप है. सरोवर के उत्तरी तट पर स्थित भगवान शिव के मंदिर को सर्वेश्वर महादेव कहा जाता है. परंपरा के अनुसार, यहां भगवान ब्रह्मा द्वारा शिव लिंग स्थापित किया गया था. नवंबर-दिसंबर में ब्रैमरोवर के तट पर वार्षिक गीता जयंती समारोह आयोजित किया जाता है.
पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, कुरूक्षेत्र को भगवान ब्रह्मा द्वारा विशाल यज्ञ से निर्मित किया गया था. यहां भगवान शिव का एक मंदिर भी है जहां एक पुल के माध्यम से पहुंचा जा सकता है. यह सरोवर, नबंवर में गीता जयंती के दौरान सुंदर दिखता है और दिसम्बर के शुरू में यहां दीपदान का आयोजन किया जाता है जिसमें पानी में जलती हुए दीपों को बहाया जाता है. कहा जाता है कि इस कुंड में डुबकी लगाने से उतना ही पुण्य प्राप्त होता है जितना पुण्य अश्वमेघ यज्ञ को करने के बाद मिलता है. यह कुंड, 1800 फीट लम्बा और 1400 फीट चौडा है. इस कुंड में स्नान करने के लिए सूर्य ग्रहण और गीता जंयती के दौरान काफी भीड होती है. नबंवर में गीता जंयती के दौरान और दिसम्बर में दीपदान के समय, यहां प्रवासी पक्षी भारी संख्या में आते है.
