ये है अकबर का भारत
मुगल शासनकाल में अकबर एक ऐसा नायक बन कर उभरे, जिनकी राजकाज की शैली को आज भी मानक माना गया है. अकबर का वैभव और उनकी राजनीतिक कुशलता के किस्से कहानी आज भी बच्चों को सुनाए जाते हैं. पुस्तकों में पढ़ाए जाते हैं. भारतीय इतिहास बिना बादशाह अकबर के अधूरा है. जब भी चतुराई की बात आती है, तो अकबर-बीरबल की बात आम लोगों की जुबान पर आ ही जाती है.
अपने साम्राज्य की एकता बनाए रखने के लिए अकबर द्वारा ऐसी नीतियाँ अपनाई गईं, जिनसे गैर- मुसलमानों की राजभक्ति जीती जा सके. भारत के इतिहास में अकबर का नाम काफी प्रसिद्ध है. इतिहासकारों का कहना है कि उसने अपने शासनकाल में सभी धर्मों का सम्मान किया था, सभी जाति-वर्गों के लोगों को एक समान माना और उनसे अपने मित्रता के संबंध स्थापित किए. अकबर ने अपने शासनकाल में सारे भारत को एक साम्राज्य के अंतर्गत लाने का प्रयास किया, जिसमें वह काफी हद तक सफल भी रहा.
इतिहास बताता है कि अकबर का जन्म 15 अक्टूबर, 1542 ई. (19 इसफन्दरमिज रविवार, रजब हिजरी का दिन या विक्रम संवत 1599 के कार्तिक मास की छठी) को हमीदा बानू के गर्भ से अमरकोट के राणा वीरसाल के महल में हुआ था. आजकल कितने ही लोग अमरकोट को उमरकोट समझने की गलती करते हैं. वास्तव में यह इलाका राजस्थान का अभिन्न अंग था. आज भी वहां हिंदू राजपूत बसते हैं. रेगिस्तान और सिंध की सीमा पर होने के कारण अंग्रेजों ने इसे सिंध के साथ जोड़ दिया और विभाजन के बाद वह पाकिस्तान का अंग बन गया. 1551 ई. में मात्र 9 वर्ष की अवस्था में पहली बार अकबर को गजनी की सूबेदारी सौंपी गई.
हुमायूं ने भारत की दोबारा विजय के समय मुनीम खां को अकबर का संरक्षक नियुक्त किया. सिकन्दर सूर से अकबर द्वारा सरहिन्द को छीन लेने के बाद हुमायूं ने 1555 ई. में उसे अपना ‘युवराज’ घोषित किया. दिल्ली पर अधिकार कर लेने के बाद हुमायूं ने अकबर को लाहौर का गर्वनर नियुक्त किया, साथ ही अकबर के संरक्षक मुनीम खां को अपने दूसरे लड़के मिर्जा हकीम का अंगरक्षक नियुक्त कर, तुर्क सेनापति बैरम खां को अकबर का संरक्षक नियुक्त किया.
1546 ई. में अकबर के खतने के समय हुमायूं ने उसका नाम जलालुद्दीन मुहम्मद अकबर रखा. बादशाह अकबर मुगल साम्राज्य के संस्थापक जहीरुद्दीन मुहम्मद बाबर का पौत्र और नासिरुद्दीन हुमायूं एवं हमीदा बानो बेगम का पुत्र था. अकबर के वंशज तैमूर लंग के खानदान से थे और मातृपक्ष का संबंध चंगेज खां से था. अकबर मात्र तेरह वर्ष की आयु में अपने पिता नसीरुद्दीन मुहम्मद हुमायुं की मृत्यु उपरांत दिल्ली की राजगद्दी पर बैठा था.
अपने शासन काल में उसने शक्तिशाली शेरशाह सूरी के आक्रमण बिल्कुल बंद करवा दिए थे. साथ ही पानीपत के द्वितीय युद्ध में हिंदू राजा हेमू को पराजित किया था. उत्तरी और मध्य भारत के सभी क्षेत्रों को एकछत्र अधिकार में लाने में अकबर को दो दशक लग गए थे. बादशाह के रूप में अकबर ने शक्तिशाली और बहुल हिन्दू राजपूत राजाओं से राजनयिक संबंध बनाए और उनके यहां विवाह भी किए. जोधा अकबर की कहानी आज भी लोगों की जुबान पर है. अकबर के शासन के अंत तक 1605 ई. में मुगल साम्राज्य में उत्तरी और मध्य भारत के अधिकाश भाग सम्मिलित थे और उस समय के सर्वाधिक शक्तिशाली साम्राज्यों में से यह एक था.
अकबर के शासन का प्रभाव देश की कला एवं संस्कृति पर भी पड़ा. ललित कलाओं में काफी रुचि दिखाई और उसके प्रासाद की भित्तियां सुंदर चित्रों व नमूनों से भरी पड़ी थीं. उसे साहित्य में भी रुचि थी और उसने अनेक संस्कृत पाण्डुलिपियों व ग्रन्थों का फारसी में तथा फारसी ग्रन्थों का संस्कृत व हिन्दी में अनुवाद करवाया था. शुरुआती शासन काल में अकबर की हिंदुओं के प्रति सहिष्णुता नहीं थी, लेकिन समय के साथ-साथ उसने अपने आप को बदला और हिंदुओं सहित अन्य धर्मों में बहुत रुचि दिखाई. हिंदू-मुस्लिम संप्रदायों के बीच की दूरियां कम करने के लिए दीन-ए-इलाही नामक धर्म की स्थापना की. उसका दरबार सबके लिए हर समय खुला रहता था. उसके दरबार में मुस्लिम सरदारों की अपेक्षा हिंदू सरदार अधिक थे. अकबर ने हिंदुओं पर लगने वाला जजिया कर ही नहीं समाप्त किया, बल्कि ऐसे अनेक कार्य किए, जिनके कारण हिंदू और मुस्लिम दोनों उसके प्रशंसक बने.
