साहित्य से है सिनेमा
भारतीय सिनेमा और साहित्य का रिश्ता काफी पुराना है. जब कहानी पर आधारित फिल्में बनाने की शुरुआत हुयी तो इनका आधार साहित्य ही बना. भारत की पहली फीचर फिल्म दादा साहब फाल्के ने बनायी जो भारतेन्दु हरिश्चन्द्र के नाटक हरिश्चंद्र पर आधारित थी.
हिंदी के सर्वाधिक लोकप्रिय साहित्यकार मुंशी प्रेमचंद के उपन्यासों पर कई फिल्में बनी लेकिन सिनेमा घरों में चल नहीं पाई. प्रेमचंद की कहानी पर मोहन भावनानी के निर्देशन में बनी फिल्म मिल मजदूर को तो मुंबई में प्रतिबंधित कर दिया गया था और पंजाब में यह गरीब मजदूर के नाम से प्रदर्शित हुई थी. इससे प्रेमचंद को काफी धक्का लगा था.
60 के दशक तक काफी उपन्यासों पर फिल्में बनी लेकिन कुछ कमाल नहीं कर पाई. 1941 में भगवतीचरण वर्मा के उपन्यास पर बनी फिल्म चित्रलेखा काफी सफल रही. विमल मित्र और शरतचन्द्र चट्टोपाध्याय के उपन्यासों पर बनी फ़िल्म साहेब, बीवी और गुलाम, देवदास और परिणीता बेहद सफल रही.
फणीश्वरनाथ रेणु की कहानी मारे गए गुलफाम पर बनी फिल्म तीसरी कसम को राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार तो मिला लेकिन ये फिल्म सिनेमा घरों में नहीं चली. इस कारण फिल्म के निर्माता भारी कर्ज में डूब गए. सफलता का असली स्वाद 1965 में आर. के. नारायण के उपन्यास पर बनी फिल्म गाइड ने चखा. यही हाल हुआ 1977 में सत्यजित रे की पहली हिंदी फिल्म सतरंज के खिलाडी का जो कि मुंशी प्रेमचंद के उपन्यास पर आधारित थी. इसी तरह भारतीय सिनेमा और साहित्य का मेलजोल चलता रहा.
2000 ई. के बाद कई फ़िल्में भारतीय उपन्यासों पर बनी जिनमे कुछ फ्लॉप तो कई सुपरहिट रही. इसमें सबसे ज्यादा सफलता चेतन भगत के उपन्यासों को मिली जिनमें फाइव पॉइंट समवन पर आधारित फिल्म थ्री इडियट्स बॉलीवुड की सबसे बड़ी ब्लॉकबस्टर फिल्मों में से एक है.
इस दौरान ब्लैक फ्राइडे (हुसैन जैदी), 2 स्टेट्स (चेतन भगत), पिंजर (अमृता प्रीतम) के उपन्यासों पर बनी फिल्में सफल रही वही दूसरी ओर ज्ञान प्रकाश के उपन्यास मुंबई फब्लेस पर बनी फिल्म बॉम्बे वेलवेट फ्लॉप साबित हुई.
हाल ही में आई हरिंदर सिंह के उपन्यास कालिंग सहमत पर बनी मेघना गुलज़ार की फिल्म राज़ी सुपरहिट रही. इसी कड़ी में इस साल अनुजा चौहान के उपन्यास पर आधारित दि जोया फैक्टर बन रही है.
