गणों के अधिपति श्री गणेश जी प्रथम पूज्य हैं।शास्त्रों में सर्वप्रथम उन्हीं की पूजा का विधान है।उनके बाद ही अन्य देवताओं की पूजा की जाती हैं। किसी भी कर्मकांड में श्री गणेश की पूजा-आराधना सबसे पहले की जाती है। क्योंकि गणेश जी विघ्नहर्ता हैं।और आने वाले सभी विघ्नों को दूर करने वाले हैं। श्री गणेश जी लोक मंगल के भी देवता हैं।लोक मंगल उनका उद्देश्य है।परंतु जहां भी अमंगल होता है, उसे दूर करने के लिए श्री गणेश हमेशा आगे रहते हैं। गणेश जी ऋद्धि-सिद्धि के भी स्वामी हैं।
रिद्धि सिद्धि के देवता गणपति के पूजन में प्रसाद के रूप में खासतौर पर मोदक का भोग ज़रूर लगाया जाता है। कहा जाता है कि मोदक गणपति को बहुत पसंद है। लेकिन इसके पीछे पौराणिक मान्यताएं छिपी हुई हैं। पुराणों के अनुसार गणपति और श्री परशुराम जी के बीच भयंकर युद्ध चल रहा था। उसी दौरान गणपति जी का एक दांत टूट गया था।जिसके चलते उन्हें खाने में काफी परेशानी होने लगी। उनके कष्ट को देखते हुए कुछ ऐसे पकवान बनाए गए जिसे खाने में आसानी हो और उससे दांतों में दर्द भी ना हो। उन्हीं पकवानों में से एक था मोदक।माना जाता है कि श्री गणेश को मोदक बहुत ज्यादा ही पसंद आया और तभी से वो उनका पसंदीदा मिष्ठान बन गया था। इसलिए भक्त गणेश जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए भक्त जन प्रसाद में मोदक का भोग लगाने लगे
एक मान्यता ऐसी भी है कि गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन चंद्र दर्शन नहीं करना चाहिए। नहीं तो व्यक्ति के ऊपर मिथ्या कलंक यानी बिना किसी वजह से व्यक्ति पर कोई झूठा आरोप लग सकता है। पुराणों के अनुसार एक बार भगवान कृष्ण ने भी गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन चंद्रमा का दर्शन किया था। जिसकी वजह से उन्हें भी मिथ्या का शिकार होना पड़ा था। गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन चंद्र दर्शन को लेकर एक और पौराणिक मत है जिसके अनुसार इस चतुर्थी के दिन ही भगवान गणेश ने चंद्रमा को श्राप दिया था। इस वजह से ही चतुर्थी के दिन चंद्र दर्शन को निषेध माना गया।
हिन्दू पंचाग के अनुसार इस वर्ष भाद्रपद महिने के शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थ तिथि अर्थात 18 सितम्बर को दोपहर 12 बजकर 39 मिनट से 19 सितम्बर को दोपहर 01 बजकर 43 मिनट तक यह योग रहेगा उदयातिथि के कारण इस वर्ष गणेश चतुर्थी 19 सितम्बर 2023 यानी कि मंगलवार(आज) को ही मानाया जाएगा।
महाराष्ट्र में गणेश चतुर्थी पूरे 11 दिनों तक मनाया जाता है। भगवान गणेश की प्रतिमा को पूरे विधि विधान से घर में स्थापित किया जाता है।पूरे हर्षोल्लास के साथ मनाया जाने वाला यह पर्व लोगो के लिए सिर्फ श्रद्धा का विषय ही नहीं बल्कि इस बात का भी प्रतीक है कि आप श्री गणेश की तरह ही अपने अंदर पूरी शुद्धि के साथ एक नए जीवन की शुरूआत करें। तो पूरे हर्षोउल्लास के साथ श्री गणेश की अराधना किजिए और एक बार जोर से बोलिए गणपति बप्पा मोरिया।
