गुरुजी ने दिया था सामाजिक समरसता पर सबसे अधिक जोर

‘जिस प्रकार किसी पेड़ के बढ़ते समय उसकी सूखी शाखाएँ गिरकर उनके स्थान पर नई-नई शाखाएँ खड़ी हो जाती हैं उसी प्रकार अपने समाज में भी एक समय विद्यमान वर्ण व्यवस्था में बदल कर अपने लिए आवश्यक नई रचना समाज करेगा. यह समाज की विकास प्रक्रिया का स्वाभाविक अंग है,” श्री गुरुजी.
माधवराव सदाशिवराव गोलवलकर राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के द्वितीय सरसंघचालक तथा विचारक थे. इनके अनुयायी इन्हें प्रायः ‘गुरूजी’ के ही नाम से अधिक जानते हैं. गोलवलकर ने बंच ऑफ थॉट्स तथा वी, ऑर ऑवर नेशनहुड डिफाइंड पुस्तकें लिखीं.
उनका जन्म फाल्गुन मास की एकादशी संवत् 1963 तदनुसार 19 फ़रवरी 1906 को महाराष्ट्र के रामटेक में हुआ था. वे अपने माता-पिता की चौथी संतान थे. उनके पिता का नाम श्री सदाशिव राव उपाख्य ‘भाऊ जी’ तथा माता का श्रीमती लक्ष्मीबाई उपाख्य ‘ताई’ था. उनका बचपन में नाम माधव रखा गया पर परिवार में वे मधु के नाम से ही पुकारे जाते थे. पिता सदाशिव राव प्रारम्भ में डाक-तार विभाग में कार्यरत थे परन्तु बाद में सन् 1908 में उनकी नियुक्ति शिक्षा विभाग में अध्यापक पद पर हो गयी.
गुरूजी के पिता जी को भाऊ जी के नाम से भी जाना जाता था। ताई-भाऊजी की कुल 9 संतानें हुई थीं, जिसमे से केवल गुरूजी ही बचे थे. बचपन से ही गुरूजी में कुशाग्र बुद्धि, ज्ञान की लालसा, असामान्य स्मरण शक्ति जैसे गुण थे। सिर्फ 2 वर्ष की उम्र में ही गुरूजी की शिक्षा प्रारंभ उनके पिताजी द्वारा हो गयी थी. वे उन्हें जो भी पढ़ाते थे उसे वे कंठस्थ कर लेते थे.
1919 में उन्होंने हाई स्कूल की प्रवेश परीक्षा में विशेष योग्यता के साथ छात्रवृत्ति प्राप्त की. वर्ष 1922 में गुरूजी ने मैट्रिक की परीक्षा जुबली हाई स्कूल से पास की. उसके बाद वर्ष 1924 में नागपुर के हिस्लाप कॉलेज से विज्ञान विषय में इण्टरमीडिएट की परीक्षा पास की. पढाई के साथ उनकी रूचि खेलो के प्रति भी अधिक थी. वे हॉकी और टेनिस खेला करते थे. वे मलखम्ब के करतब में काफी निपुण थे. साथ ही विद्यार्थी जीवन में उन्होंने बांसुरी और सितार वादन में भी अच्छी प्रवीणता हासिल कर ली थी.
1926 में बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय से उन्होंने बी.एस.सी और 1928 में एम.एस.सी की परीक्षा प्राणी शास्त्र विषय में प्रथम श्रेणी के साथ उत्तीर्ण की. इसके बाद वे प्राणी शास्त्र विषय में मत्स्य जीवन पर शोध कार्य हेतु मद्रास के मत्स्यालय से जुड गए. परन्तु एक वर्ष पश्चात ही आर्थिक तंगी के कारण गुरूजी को अपना शोध कार्य अधुरा छोड़कर अप्रैल 1929 में नागपुर वापस लौटना पड़ा. इसी बीच दो वर्ष बाद 1931 नागपुर में उन्हें बनारस हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय से निर्देशक के पद पर कार्य करने का प्रस्ताव मिला. उन्होंने यह पद स्वीकार कर लिया, यह एक अस्थाई नियुक्ति थी.
गुरूजी राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ से प्रथम बार बनारस में संपर्क में आये. अपने अध्यापन के कारण वे शीघ्र ही लोकप्रिय हो गए और छात्र उन्हें गुरूजी कहने लगे. उनके इन्ही गुणों के कारण भैयाजी दाणी ने संघ-कार्य तथा संगठन के लिए उनसे अधिकाधिक लाभ उठाने का प्रयास भी किया. जिसके बाद गुरूजी भी शाखा जाने लगे और बाद में शाखा के संघचालक भी बने. यहां से गुरुजी के जीवन में एक नए मोड़ का आरम्भ हो गया. डॉ. हेडगेवार के सानिध्य में उन्होंने एक अत्यंत प्रेरणादायक राष्ट्र समर्पित व्यक्तित्व को देखा. वर्ष 1938 के पश्चात संघ कार्य को ही उन्होंने अपना जीवन कार्य मान लिया.
1939 में गुरूजी को राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (RSS) का सरकार्यवाह बनाया गया था. 1940 में डॉ. हेडगेवार का ज्वर बढता ही चला गया और अपने जीवन का अंत समय जानकर उन्होंने कार्यकर्ताओं के सामने गुरूजी को पास बुलाया और कहा अब आप ही संघ कार्य संभाले और 21 जून 1940 को डॉ हेडगेवार का स्वर्गवास हो गया. इस तरह गुरूजी को राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का सरसंघचालक का दायित्व मिला.
30 जनवरी 1948 को गांधीजी की हत्या के गलत आरोप में राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ पर तत्कालीन सरकार ने प्रतिबंध लगा दिया. यह प्रतिबंध 4 फरवरी को लगाया गया था. तब गोलवलकर ने इस घटना की निंदा की थी लेकिन फिर भी गुरूजी और देशभर के स्वयंसेवकों की गिरफ़्तारी हुई. गुरूजी ने पत्रिकाओं के माध्यम से आह्वान किया कि संघ पर आरोप सिद्ध करो या तो फिर प्रतिबंध हटाओ. 26 फरवरी 1948 को देश के प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू को गृहमंत्री वल्लभ भाई पटेल ने अपने पत्र में लिखा था कि गांधी हत्या के काण्ड में मैंने स्वयं अपना ध्यान लगाकर पूरी जानकारी प्राप्त की है. उससे जुड़े हुए सभी अपराधी लोग पकड़ में आ गए हैं. उनमें एक भी व्यक्ति राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का नहीं है.
9 दिसम्बर 1948 को सत्याग्रह आन्दोलन की शुरुआत हुई. जिसमे 5 हजार बाल स्वयंसेवको ने भाग लिया और 77090 स्वयंसेवकों ने विभिन्न जेलों को भर दिया. इसके बाद सरकार द्वारा संघ को लिखित संविधान बनाने का आदेश देकर प्रतिबन्ध हटा लिया गया और अब गांधी हत्या का इसमें जिक्र तक नहीं हुआ. गुरुजी के सरसंघचालक रहते संघ को अत्यधिक विस्तार मिला.
