उस वक्त तकनीक के इशारों पर नाचते बच्चे नहीं थे। तब के बच्चों की सबसे ज्यादा अच्छी दोस्ती कॉमिक्स से हुआ करती थी। गर्मी की छुट्टियों का मतलब होता था ढ़ेर सारी कॉमिक्स और खूब सारी मस्ती। आज वह वक्त कहां रहा, जब हम अपने दोस्तों के साथ मिलकर किराये पर कॉमिक्स लिया करते थे और बड़े चाव से उनकी कहानियों को पढ़ा करते थे। अगर आपको याद हो तो उस वक्त राज बुक्स के कॉमिक्सों की खूब डिमांड थी। वो भी नागराज नाम के कॉमिक्स की।
नागराज उस समय के इंडियन कॉमिक्स का सबसे बड़ा हीरो हुआ करता था। इस कॉमिक्स किरदार ने लोगों के दिलों पर खूब राजा किया। हालांकि कॉमिक्स लिखने या कॉन्सेप्ट भारत का नहीं है। व्यवसायिक स्तर पर इसे सबसे से पहले यूनान ने शुरू किया था। स्विस आर्टिस्ट रूडोल्फ टकर ने पहली बार 19वीं सदी में कॉमिक किरदारों के साथ काम शुरू किया था। क्या आपको पता है कि दुनिया की पहली कॉमिक्स अमेरिकी अखबार में स्ट्रिप के तौर पर आई थी।
भारत में कॉमिक्स की दुनिया में 1964 में प्रकाशित कॉमिक इन्द्रजाल को कौन नहीं जानता। वहीं मार्च 1964 में प्रकाशित फेनटम बेल्ट का हिन्दी संस्करण बेताल की मेखला ने लोगों का दिल जीत लिया। उसने बेताल के कैरेक्टर को तो जैसे लोगों के बीच जिंदा ही कर दिया। अनंत पाई और कार्टूनिस्ट राम वइरकर ने मिलकर अमर चित्र कथा को तो उस समय के लोगों के दिल की धड़कन बना दिया था। अमर चित्र कथ-कृष्णा, भारत की पहली मूल कॉमिक बुक थी। इसकी हिट इतनी थी कि इसकी 5 लाख से ज्यादा कॉपी बिकी थी। इन्द्रजाल के कैरेक्टर इंस्पेक्टर आजाद ने भी खूब वाहवाही बटोरी।
अब बारी थी प्राण की कॉमिक बुक के सबसे चहेते कैरेक्टर जिसके बारे में आप ना जानते हो लेकिन एक ना एक बार सुना जरूर होगा इसकी गारंटी मेरी। चाचा चौधरी का नाम तो आपने सुना है ना। जी हां भारतीय कॉमिक दुनिया का सबसे चहेता किरदार चाचा चौधरी और उनका साबू ने लोगों के दिलों पर एकक्षत्र राज किया। वो भारतीय कॉमिक की दुनिया के सुपरहीरो थे। 1978 में डायमंड कॉमिक्स के फौलादी सिंह को जरा याद किजिए। उस समय के शायद सबसे पहले वैज्ञानिक किरदार वाले कॉमिक स्टार किरदार। ऐसी रंग बिरंगी दुनिया थी कॉमिक्स की।
