सद्गुरु द्वारा स्थापित ईशा फाउंडेशन एक लाभ-रहित मानव सेवा संस्थान है जो लोगों की शारीरिक, मानसिक और आन्तरिक कुशलता के लिए समर्पित है. यह दो लाख पचास हजार से भी अधिक स्वयंसेवियों द्वारा चलाया जाता है. इसका मुख्यालय ईशा योग केंद्र कोयंबटूर में है. ग्रीन हैंड्स परियोजना ईशा फाउंडेशन की पर्यावरण संबंधी प्रस्ताव है. पूरे तमिलनाडु में लगभग 16 करोड़ वृक्ष रोपित करना परियोजना का घोषित लक्ष्य है. अब तक ग्रीन हैंड्स परियोजना के अंतर्गत तमिलनाडु और पुदुच्चेरी में 1800 से अधिक समुदायों में, 20 लाख से अधिक लोगों द्वारा 82 लाख पौधे के रोपण का आयोजन किया है. इस संगठन ने 17 अक्टूबर 2006 को तमिलनाडु के 27 जिलों में एक साथ 8.52 लाख पौधे रोपकर गिनीज विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया था.
पर्यावरण सुरक्षा के लिए किए गए इसके महत्वपूर्ण कार्यों के लिए इसे वर्ष 2008 का इंदिरा गांधी पर्यावरण पुरस्कार दिया गया. वर्ष 2017 में आध्यत्म के लिए आपको पद्मविभूषण से भी सम्मानित किया गया. अभी वे रैली फ़ॉर रिवर नदियों के संरक्षण के लिए अभियान चला रहे हैं.
बचपन में, वह प्रकृति की ओर काफी आकर्षित हुए. जिसके चलते उन्होंने घर के पास एक जंगल में समय बिताना शुरू किया. उस दौरान उन्होंने सरीसृपों के प्रति प्यार को विकसित किया. बारह वर्ष की उम्र में, उन्होंने मल्लादिहल्ली श्री राघवेंद्र स्वामीजी से मुलाकात की और योग आसन सीखा. उनके अनुसार, वह बिना किसी ब्रेक के नियमित रूप से इन आसनों का अभ्यास करते रहते हैं. कॉलेज के दिनों में, उन्हें मोटरसाइकिल पर यात्रा करना बहुत पसंद था. जिसके चलते वह मैसूर के निकट चामुंडी हिल में अपने दोस्तों के साथ रात्रिभोज के लिए जाते थे. उन्हें भारत के विभिन्न स्थानों पर मोटरसाइकिल पर अकेले यात्रा करना पसंद है. कॉलेज से पढ़ाई पूरी करने के बाद, उन्होंने पोल्ट्री फार्म, ईंट बनाने, इत्यादि कई व्यवसायों को करने कोशिश की. जिसके कारण, वह एक सफल व्यवसायी बने.
25 वर्ष की उम्र में अनायास ही बड़े विचित्र रूप से, इनको गहन आत्मन अनुभूति हुई, जिसने इनके जीवन की दिशा को ही बदल दिया. एक दोपहर, जग्गी वासुदेव मैसूर में चामुंडी पहाड़ियों पर चढ़े और एक चट्टान पर बैठ गए. तब उनकी आंखे पूरी खुली हुई थीं. अचानक, उन्हें शरीर से परे का अनुभव हुआ. उन्हें लगा कि वह अपने शरीर में नहीं हैं, बल्कि हर जगह फैल गए हैं, चट्टानों में, पेड़ों में, पृथ्वी में. अगले कुछ दिनों में, उन्हेंन यह अनुभव कई बार हुआ और हर बार यह उन्हेंर परमानंद की स्थिति में छोड़ जाता. इस घटना ने उनकी जीवन शौली को पूरी तरह से बदल दिया. जग्गी वासुदेव ने उन अनुभवों को बाँटने के लिए अपना पूरा जीवन समर्पित करने का फैसला किया. ईशा फाउंडेशन की स्थावपना और ईशा योग कार्यक्रमों की शुरुआत इसी उद्देश्यि को लेकर की गई तकि यह संभावना विश्वक को अर्पित की जा सके.
