महादेवी वर्मा : जिन्होंने व्यथा को भी दिया सौंदर्य
वे मुस्काते फूल, नहीं
जिनको आता है मुरझाना,
वे तारों के दीप, नहीं
जिनको भाता है बुझ जाना
जब हम किसी रचना को पढ़ते हैं, तो उस रचना में इतनी ताकत होती है कि उनके एक-एक शब्द को हम जीने लगते हैं. उन रचनाओं में खुद को इतना भुला देते हैं कि जब किरदार को पीड़ा होती है, तो हमें भी उसका एहसास होता होता है, जब उसका किरदार खुश होता है, तो हम भी खुश हो जाते है.
ये सब तब होता है जब कवि या कवयित्री ने कुछ ऐसा लिखा हो जो हमारे दिलों में गहरे उतर जाए. सारा खेल उनकी सोच और शब्दों का होता है. कुछ ऐसी ही थी महादेवी वर्मा और उनकी रचनाएँ. रचनाएँ ऐसी कि जिससे आप हर उस छोटी चीज को देखकर जीने या सोचने लगते हैं. जिसकी आपने कभी कल्पना भी नहीं की होगी. महादेवी वर्मा ने समाज को उसका आइना दिखाया. अपनी कहानियों, निबंधों, और कविताओं से खुद को जोड़ा.
शिक्षा और साहित्य प्रेम महादेवी जी को एक तरह से विरासत में मिला था. महादेवी में काव्य रचना के बीज बचपन से ही विद्यमान थे. छह-सात वर्ष की अवस्था में भगवान की पूजा करती हुई माँ पर उनकी तुकबन्दी देखिए –
ठंडे पानी से नहलाती
ठंडा चन्दन उन्हें लगाती
उनका भोग हमें दे जाती
तब भी कभी न बोले हैं
मां के ठाकुर जी भोले हैं.
बता दें कि 26 मार्च 1907 को उत्तरप्रदेश के फर्रुखाबाद में उनका जन्म हुआ था. घर का माहौल काफी सुसंस्कृत था. यहीं से उन्हें साहित्य के संस्कार मिले. उन दिनों में जब लड़कियों को खुलकर बोलने तक की अनुमति नहीं होती थी, उस दौर में महादेवी ऐसे परिवार में पली-बढ़ी, जहां उन्हें अपनी बात खुलकर बोलने, जीने, अपनी भावनाएं रखने की इजाजत मिली. छोटी उम्र में शादी होने के बाद भी महादेवी की पढाई में कोई रुकावट नहीं आई. उन्होंने संस्कृत में एम.ए की पढ़ाई इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय से पूरी की.
महादेवी वर्मा को बचपन से ही लिखने का शौक था. ये शौक उनको उनकी माँ से मिली. उनकी माँ ठाकुर जी की बहुत बढ़ी भक्त थी. घर में ठाकुर जी को देखकर महादेवी वर्मा भी भगवान कृष्ण की बहुत बड़ी भक्त रहीं. महादेवी वर्मा को छायावादी युग की कवयित्री कहा जाता है. वे उन चार स्तंभों में से एक थीं, जिन्होंने छायावाद को लोगों तक पहुँचाया. प्रेम को अपनी कविताओं के माध्यम से लोगों तक इस कदर पहुँचाया कि लोग उसमें लीन हो गए. उनकी रचनाओं में भावुकता और करुणा के कारण कई लोग उनको आधुनिक मीरा कहकर बुलाते हैं.
निश्वासों का नीड़, निशा का
बन जाता जब शयनागार,
लुट जाते अभिराम छिन्न
मुक्तावलियों के बंदनवार,
तब बुझते तारों के नीरव नयनों का यह हाहाकार,
आँसू से लिख लिख जाता है ‘कितना अस्थिर है संसार’!
उनकी कविताओं ने हिंदी की रचनाशीलता को एक नया अर्थ दिया था. भारतीय समाज में स्त्री होने के संघर्ष को उनकी कविता ने बड़ी ही मौलिक गहनता के साथ व्यक्त किया. कवियित्री के साथ-साथ महादेवी चित्रकार, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, शिक्षिका और औरतों की मुखर वकील भी थी. वे लड़कियों को संस्कृति और साहित्य की पढाई करवाने वाला प्रयाग महिला विद्यापीठ की प्रधानाचार्य रही और बाद में चलकर कुलपति (वाईस-चांसलर) के तौर पर नियुक्त हुईं. अपनी कहानियों और कविताओं के माध्यम से उन्होंने औरतों की आजादी की बात कही. मन से मन के तार जोड़ने वाली महादेवी ने खुद के जीवन में बिताए लम्हों को भी अपनी रचनाओ में संजोया है.
महादेवी ने सैकड़ों गीत लिखे. सभी गीतों का कथ्य लगभग एक ही है. बेशक इन गीतों में स्त्री-मन की गहन व्यथा है, परंतु सिर्फ यही भर नहीं है. यहां व्यथा की अभिव्यक्ति उसमें डूबे रहने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि उसके पार जीवन के हर्ष-उल्लास तक, उसके सौंदर्य और सार्थकता तक पहुंचने के लिए है.
गौरा में में महादेवी ने अपनी गाय के साथ बिताये समय और उसकी यादों को बताया है. मेरे बचपन के दिन में महादेवी के बचपन की बातें लिखी हुई हैं. नील कंठ, दुर्मुख, अतीत का चलचित्र, नीरजा, निहार, रश्मि, सांध्यगीत, दीपशिखा, अग्निरेखा, स्मृति की रेखाएं, आत्मिका, गिलु ये कुछ उनकी प्रसिद्ध रचनाएँ है. महादेवी वर्मा पहली भारतीय महिला हैं जिनको साहित्य अकादमी फेलोशिप का पुरस्कार मिला. पद्मभूषण (1956) और पद्मविभूषण (1988 में यामा के लिए) से सम्मानित किया गया था साथ ही इनकी कविताओं की संग्रह के लिए ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार (1982) से भी नवाजा गया है.
आधुनिक हिंदी कविता में एक महत्वपूर्ण शक्ति के रूप में उभरी महादेवी वर्मा को बुद्ध के उपदेश ने भी बहुत प्रभावित किया था. महात्मा गाँधी और रबिन्द्रनाथ टैगोर की कला और साहित्य का प्रभाव हमेशा महदेवी पर रहा. सुभद्रा कुमारी चैहान के साथ दोस्ती, तो सुमित्रानंदन पंत और सूर्यकांत त्रिपाठी निराला के साथ भाई-बहन का रिश्ता रहा. साहित्य की इस महारथी ने सब पर अपनी छाप छोड़ी और आज भी लोग जब इनका बारे में बोलते हैं तो इनकी रचनाओं की तारीफ करते नहीं थकते.
