यदि आपको केवल अपनी मातृभाषा ही आती है, तो दूसरी भाषा में लिखे गए बेहतरीन रचना को पढ़ने में दिक्कत आती है. हिन्दी भाषियों के साथ भी यह दिक्कत है कि वे चाहकर भी बांग्ला कैसे पढ़ पाएंगे ? लेकिन, हाल ही में कुछ सांस्थनिक स्तर पर प्रयास हुआ है, जिससे अब प्रसिद्ध बांगला कवि और दार्शनिक काजी नजरुल इस्लाम की बेहतरीन रचनाओं को हिन्दी में अनुवाद किया जा रहा है. अब उनकी रचनाएं देश-विदेश में हिन्दी भाषियों के लिए उपलब्ध होगी.
बता दें कि काजी नजरुल इस्लाम प्रसिद्ध बांग्ला कवि, संगीत सम्राट, संगीतज्ञ और दार्शनिक थे. उन्हें वर्ष 1960 में साहित्य एवं शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में योगदान के लिए पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था. नजरुल ने लगभग तीन हजार गानों की रचना की और साथ ही अधिकांश को स्वर भी दिया. इनके संगीत के आजकल नजरुल संगीत या नजरुल गीति नाम से जाना जाता है. काजी नजरुल इस्लाम बांग्ला भाषा के अन्यतम साहित्यकार, देशप्रेमी तथा बांग्ला देश के राष्ट्रीय कवि हैं. पश्चिम बंगाल और बांग्लादेश दोनों ही जगह उनकी कविता और गान को समान आदर प्राप्त है.
उनकी कविता में विद्रोह के स्वर होने के कारण उनको विद्रोही कवि के नाम से जाना जाता है. उनकी कविता का विषय मनुष्य के ऊपर मनुष्य का अत्याचार तथा सामाजिक अनाचार तथा शोषण के विरुद्ध सोच्चार प्रतिवाद है. काजी नजरुल इस्लाम ने लगभग 3000 गानों की रचना की तथा साथ ही अधिकांश को स्वर भी दिया. इनको आजकल नजरुल संगीत या नजरुल गीति नाम से जाना जाता है.
काजी नजरुल इस्लाम का जन्म भारत के पश्चिम बंगाल प्रदेश के वर्धमान जिले में आसनसोल के पास चुरुलिया नामक गाँव में एक दरिद्र मुस्लिम परिवार में हुआ था. उनकी प्राथमिक शिक्षा धार्मिक (मजहबी) शिक्षा के रूप में हुई. किशोरावस्था में विभिन्न थिएटर दलों के साथ काम करते-करते काजी नजरुल इस्लाम ने कविता, नाटक एवं साहित्य के सम्बन्ध में सम्यक ज्ञान प्राप्त किया.
उनकी कविताओं में विद्रोह की झलक मिलती है, जिसके कारण उनको विद्रोही कवि के नाम से जाना जाता है. उन्होंने करीब 3000 गानों की रचना की है. साहित्य क्षेत्र में उनकी कृतियों के लिए पद्म भूषण से नवाजा गया था. 1972 में वह अपने परिवार के साथ बांग्लादेश की राजधानी ढाका आ गए थे. अधेड़ उम्र में काजी नजरुल इस्लाम रोग से ग्रसित हो गए थे, जिसके कारण शेष जीवन वे साहित्य कर्म से अलग हो गए. बांग्लादेश सरकार के आमन्त्रण पर वे 1972 में सपरिवार ढाका आये. उस समय उनको बांग्लादेश की राष्ट्रीयता प्रदान की गई. यहीं 29 अगस्त, 1976 को उनकी मृत्यु हुई.
