इस स्थान के नाम के पीछे एक रोचक कहानी है। कहते हैं इस जगह का नाम एक सूफी की वजह से मिला था। यह सिकंदर लोदी के समकालीन था। इसी समय में गुरु नानक इस फकीर से मिले थे। फकीर होने के कारण इसे लोग मजनू भी कहा करते थे। जिस कारण यमुना के पास एक टीले पर रहने के कारण इस जगह का नाम मजनू का टीला पर गया।
